... topic: 3338 Turnout sleeper spacing posted: 9 Oct 2018 05:34 from: Graeme Lewis Hi I have recently begun using the "shove timber" function to try and emulate Midland Railway sleepering for turnouts (rather than drawing the timbers by hand on the base board). This works very well. However, I am having little success in trying to copy the control template once I have modified the sleeper spacings and widths. For example, I went into Real/Switch Settings and set an A switch using the control template which had been modified to the desired timbering. However, when I apply this for other turnouts the timbering stays as per the Templot default. I have also tried copying a whole turnout and adding this but usually I get a message saying I cannot do this because it is already in the storage box. I can manually modify every turnout but for a layout 70' x 22' some short cuts are desirable! Any help would be appreciated. ... topic: 2616 When to use a curviform common crossing posted: 27 Jan 2015 09:36 from: Godfrey Earnshaw This is just a little something that keeps puzzling me. If I create a new turnout it appears to always be formed with a "regular" V crossing. If I curve the turnout it maintains the same "regular" V crossing. If I "insert" a turnout in an existing length of plain curved track it creates a turnout with a "regular" V crossing. My instincts tell me that at some point a "curviform" V crossing would be more suitable. So my question is "when and why" would I use a "curviform" crossing? posted: 27 Jan 2015 09:50 from: Godfrey Earnshaw Sorry guys just found the answer from a Mr Martin Wynne. Sorry, but your explanation is almost impossible to follow for those of us in the UK because of the differences in trans-pond terminology. As far as I know, you mean: double-ended siding= loop. wye= track triangle, as sometimes used for turning locomotives. wye switch= Y-turnout. switch= turnout. You will get in a total muddle in Templot if you follow the US practice of referring to an entire turnout as a "switch". In Templot and the UK, a switch is a "set of points" and refers only to the moving points part of a turnout, not the whole thing. But UK modellers are equally guilty of confusing the issue, by referring to an entire turnout as a "point". Unfortunately there's not much I can do about all this. Templot ...
