I have searched the previously posted topics on this subject and at this stage still need help on the following points. What is the difference between 3way and tandem turnouts? I'm sure I've seen this once but couldn't find the topic again to reread it. What suggestions can you make for deciding which turnout settings work together sensibly? All the examples I've seen are for the middle road being the main road. I'm particularly interested in curved turnouts where either of the outer roads are the main road. I haven't been able to work out how to achieve this. Ideally it would be nice to be able to:- Insert a turnout into a plain track aligned on the turnout road rather than the main road peg/align turnout over an existing turnout aligned on the turnout road rather than the main road. Possibly neither of the latter ideas are ...

I've spent a few full days getting the hang of things in Templot and got around to having a go at a three way tandem turnout. After many times following the various advice and examples I've finally produced the attached. It's to be a component on a friend's O gauge layout (hopefully) so is set at 0-MF with a main curve through the centre track of 4752.32mm. It was the first deviation away from the example in the tutorials I was following so I hope it's worked out about right. So I'm just asking experts to cast an eye over it with a view to advice where it may be incorrect (or not). Many thanks. It includes a main station with a shunting yard, both totaling 42 turnouts and approx. 102 routes. I would like to set the desired route by entrance – exit route switching, in other words by pressing two buttons on a control panel. The selected route should be flashing until the affected turnouts are in the end position and then steady lighted. I have this kind of control panel already on the layout, for a small station with seven turnouts and nine routes. The electronic filled two euro cards with components. I think for these 102 routes it will fill several cake tins with components and it will be daunting complex. I have the idea that this could be made simpler with the usage of microprocessors. Has anyone realized something like that, or is there a source for a solution? I prefer a microprocessor ...

Initially we were able to use Peco's turnouts, Y's and flexitrack for the trackwork, but then as confidence quickly grew, and plans became more complex with crossings, curved switches and three-ways they all turned to the club's 'Templot guy'. I said OK without question, as I had always been interested in the rustic look of these North American shortline railroads. With the minimum radius of 24 inches and 36 inches preferred it was all fairly straight forward --- until I had to work on a corner module with two existing Peco On30 switches, which had to remain in situ. ... R As one of the (nearly) silent majority, may I say that I like using Templot and I have learnt to create some beautiful track layouts. As others have said, it isn't the easiest software to learn but when was that ever a qualification for "good" software! I spent all of my working life in the railway industry including quite a bit of time designing P Way layouts in the drawing office and surveying them on site. I was especially chuffed when I managed to produce a symmetrical 3-way turnout with all the timbers shoved in all the right places. Martin, please keep up the good work! His standard gauge ones I've found to be a bit tight on gauge for ScaleOne32 (P -32 in Templot) so I'm going to have to use his gauge widened sleepers which will give me another 0.5mm of gauge to play with at the switch heel to get a bit more clearance, although this will mess about with the angles in the switch. This is stage 1 of a double deck layout in my garage (pic attached) I have a BMP file all ready to load into Templot as a background image but frankly, I do not know where to start. You see, there is not many straight sections in this plan and very few straight turnouts. Would you suggest I try manipulating a turnout to fit and go from there or start with some plain track sections and insert turnouts into that? I am still very green behind the ears when it comes to Templot so please be gentle...
