... Hi Derek, Which rail? How close to the chair do you want to cut it? If you mean cutting a timber very close to a chair, this would be frowned on in a running line rail. For a rail which is part of the crossover road, rather than the running line, it might be acceptable. If it is a slow speed area, such as a station throat or terminus it might be acceptable for any rail. One might be acceptable, but several in a row not. For goods ... only lines the inspector might be less fussy. For depots, yards and sidings anything goes which can be fixed with a big hammer. I noticed that in a few places you have made diamond-crossings where the crossing angle differs between the two half-diamonds. That will produce a dog-leg in the diagonal road through the K-crossings. Getting diamonds to run nicely is always tricky in 00, so it's best to keep the same angle both ends. That's easy to do -- starting with one of the half-diamonds as the current/control template, ... the xtrkcad backdrop (which incidently is the xtrkcad image in the files folder). Any tips or alterations I'd love to hear your views. nb the open point at the top of the plan is like that intentionally as it will lead to a lower level fiddle yard. The reason that your PDF is failing is that some of your sketchboard items are over the size limit -- the road features, for example. At 600 DPI any item much over 1000mm* in width or depth is likely to fail. That can be increased by reducing the DPI, but it is still unacceptably restrictive in 7mm scale. I'm going to have a rethink on ... uploading the files. This is a complex issue. As you know I have not yet written the Sketchboard docs, because there are so many ifs and buts, I hardly know where to start. Printing full-size templates for 7mm scale with sketchboard items several yards long, as you are doing, is obviously very different from preparing a small half-page diagram for a magazine article about a shunting layout in 2mm scale. This allows clearances to be checked: Having spent a good deal of the weekend using this new function I have to congratulate Martin on his brilliant idea. It took me less than half an hour to discover that the clearances in my fiddle yard were insufficient for what I wanted to achieve. Result, complete re-draw, much easier (and cheaper) than fining out the hard way when it's built. Next job is to check the rest of the payout and prove it will hold the vehicles ...

You also have part of a rail missing on the left hand turnout road. I'd change the V4 points at the top of the plan though, a 14" radius isn't brilliant! You could instead slew the inner road, or slew both by half the amount. But it's generally better to leave the tighter radius undisturbed and modify only the easier one.
