... topic: 3325 Brimsdown posted: 10 Sep 2018 11:34 from: Tony W As some users of this forum may be aware, I have been running a thread on my current layout project Brimsdown, on the Scalefour society forum. For those of you that aren't, here is the link. http://www.scalefour.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f =9 &t =5707 I have just posted the Box file there, but cannot post the background shapes to go with it, so I will post them here. Be aware that some of the files are quite large. If you decide to copy any part of the trackwork for your own use, which you are quite welcome to do, please note that it is all to the S4X standard rather than P4. Regards Tony. ... topic: 3014 Exactoscale P4 Company turnout bases posted: 17 Apr 2017 11:00 from: Hayfield I have a question about the Exactoscale P4 Company pre-formed turnout bases, I understand that when designing these bases they are for P4 turnouts but I am thinking of using them for EM gauge, I have printed off a standard turnout template from Templot and have found there are a couple of subtle differences. One which is easy to overcome on an A5 turnout, is that at the heal end it is a Timber short. Another is that as the base has the same number of sleepers but as you would expect the length is 5 mm longer, which I believe is easy to overcome. One issue which may not be as easy to overcome is the length of some timbers, from the toe end Plan Base 4 6 Goes into the next timber length by 2 timbers 4 4 Problem continues as above 4 3 Only one timber out of register 2 1 Problem solved There are 5 timbers potentially too short, I could remove 2 timbers and ...

... construct these with conventional 'A' and 'B' crossing chairs. Re-working the top left to top right connection so as to use two ordinary turnouts rather than combining them into an outside slip might make it easier for you to position the two lower crossings on the right hand side further apart. Then 'A' and 'B' crossing chairs for these might fit. Once you have a formation that will accommodate these standard crossing chairs I suspect the timbering problems will become much easier to solve. Also, the two inner V-crossings on the right are not properly checked -- the two check rails on the diamond roads need extending, as at the left-hand end of the formation. I agree with John that it would make sense to change the upper slip road to a half-scissors. A double outside slip is a rare formation and in that context it ...

... it by eye: 2_072132_220000000.png It looks a bit odd, but I think it is doable in P4. There is some fine tuning of check and wing rails needed for running clearances -- the 1:6 V-crossing is nearer the running rail than is strictly desirable. The first switch is a 12ft RH straight switch leading to a 1:6 V-crossing. The second switch is a 15ft RH straight switch leading to a 1:8.5 V-crossing. The middle V-crossing is about 1:11. It needs a bit more work because of the transition curve. p.s. It is not a "point". It is a "turnout", or in this case two turnouts in tandem. A "point" in railway terminology is a single switch blade, and two of them make a "pair of points". I have edited the topic title accordingly. regards, Martin. posted: 8 Jul 2013 09:33 from: JFS Are there no photos of this area? Howard posted: 8 ...

I converted this to 00 for the purpose of this layout. When I started to sort out the timbering to suit Mr Smith's book I checked the dimensions of the first few turnout's at the left hand end of the layout and find that the fine point was 0.01mm and the centre of the timber to the fine point is 5.25 inches, so I started resetting them, on reopening the file the information is giving me these dimensions but looking at the template they look OK.
