... returned to it. It seemed that if the output was to be of any use in 3D printing, the chair outlines would need to have the proper corner radii. It's a lot of extra calculation with 4 chairs on most crossing timbers, but it hasn't impacted too much on the screen response for full track plans. Obviously you would switch the chairs on only for the final printed templates, they are not needed while track planning. It's fiendishly complex. For example the REA bridge chairs (L1) have a larger corner ... the chair base and rail seat. I have removed the silly angled socket in the rail seat which I had previously. On the prototype it is a spherical fillet radius, but that would involve a silly amount of code. On the outer jaw I used a few simple facets instead, although I'm not convinced it looks right. Will be using code 80 rail throughout (I have a lot of Peco "crazy track" to rob) Should I make the jump to OO-SF for the standard gauge trackwork? any pitfalls especially with the inclusion of narrow gauge flangeways etc or ... wheels you plan to use for the stock. Much modern NG stock (eg Bachmann) has relatively fine flanges that will run through pointwork to P4 standards (I have tried!). I thought I would start a topic where I can report occasionally about what I'm currently working on in Templot. Comments and suggestions welcome, but don't leave it too long or I may have moved on to something else. I'm minded to stop using the term "irregular" diamond-crossing because it has the potential to be confused with an error condition. Instead I'm thinking of calling them "curviform" diamond-crossings ... the preview, setup and calibration options. I have also started an interactive beginner's guide within the program itself, i.e. "click this and see what happens". I have concluded that this is the only way to get some folks started -- quite a few have freely admitted that they won't read manuals, web pages or watch videos. They expect to just dive into a program and stumble about until it all becomes clear. The chances of getting the best from Templot that way are almost nil, so I think ...

I'm very pleased with this development as I had never built a point until a few months ago as I thought I would never have the skills to do so.
