... at your first attempt posted earlier. You must not move the timbers supporting the crossings as you have done, only lengthen/ shorten and twist them. Their spacing is predetermined by the crossing angle. This has been stated many times before but people still do it. Trying to timber crossovers correctly can be quite difficult sometimes. It is often easier to adjust the track spacing slightly to get the timbers to align before attempting anything else. I have reset the timbering of the platform crossover and adjusted the track centres to 44.9mm which gives a much better starting point. The ideal spacing will vary according to the crossing angle. I have realigned the approach curve to match. Take a look at which timbers I have shoved as a guide to what to do. I have only lengthened the turnout timbers without moving any. The sleepers on the exit roads have been shoved/ moved forward/ back to fit into the gaps between the timbers of the adjacent turnouts. I have got the NERA reprint which is a great start, have seen odd 'part' drawings from the old p-way site and it would appear from reading various postings here and on other forums that some Caledonian, Great North of Scotland and North British information exists possibly in archives but I do not know where. An ex BR engineer provided the attached from his collection which although not really of use to me might help others as it gives a different approach to the sleepering from the LNER. Hi Martin, I welcome the move to open sourcing Templot, however I am confused by what seems to be two separate OS versions which are different from the main Templot which you continue to develop as a closed-source project. My understanding of OS is that the whole product is open-sourced including all the build methods etc. In such a model everyone is able to contribute and you in effect would become one of those contributors. In my opinion having two separate versions that are not part of the main product roadmap gives little incentive to participate. ... your designing a trainset. Another I tried called Xtrkcad which I didn't have a clue. I have the Hornby HVR programs but they're very primitive and you can only use their components. I found this program called Scarm which seems simple enough a fairly straight forward but taken me a while to grasp, I'm sure there are many different tools etc but I've not figured that out. Eventually looking at these boring track design programs not being able to figure out anything or get it to do what I want makes my brain melt and give me a headache so I turn back to paper. One other program called Templot is supposed to be quite good but this is probably the worst of all of them, I just found myself looking at the same point on the screen for at least an hour trying to figure out how to use it despite constantly looking through forums, pages and instructions I still failed to figure it out. I'm sure it would be a good tool to use since you can apparently print out full layout plans and build your track work on ...

Which makes it a bit of a mystery why it won't work under Crossover on a Mac, which is only a Wine installer after all. Have you tried using Winebottler instead of Crossover? It may make a difference, and it's free: http://winebottler.kronenberg.org I shall continue to attempt to establish a workaround which doesn't involve digging out my old W7-based laptop. You could try installing Linux on it? ... sure about 0.2mm, but I'm not sure about that with A4 either. Flat enough, yes. Wouldn't the same error on a larger distance get a more accurate percentage? Maths is not my strong point! But... But if you can measure A3, it's easy. Set the template grid to say 25mm squares, print without calibration, and measure the grid. Calculate the calibration factors and enter them manually. Do a test print to check. I think I must have have long forgotten that method! I'll give it a go, thanks! How old a version was that method used? I got Templot in April 2001, version 0.68c (he says, checking his email archive!), but I don't remember how printing was calibrated way back then! I no longer have the CD, not that it would work anyway without a lock release code. It would have been fun to play with it again though! This is easily strong enough to keep chair in position; if by any chance it isn't you just flow a bit more solvent. Because the chair is mainly joined around the edge, if you need to adjust it, it is fairly simple to slip a sharp blade under the chair and ease it off, without damaging the chair. I'd suggest Ian gives it a go with recommended solvents and sees what he thinks. I'd also suggest he does a few inches or so of plain track first before dealing with the (slightly) more complex world of turnout construction. That would be more prototypical. 2- flatten the run-round loop (template 5 on Alan's box file). You'd need to be careful with radii though. I think looking at it overall, it's all too curvy, and gives the impression of trying to fill the space with track. I've come on a long long way from those early days with Templot ,to my slight frustration I couldn't re create the first of the two diamonds at the north end of the platforms(top right on the plan) that comprise the line from the down Platform across the upline to the goods shed. I've been able to create diamonds else where but none of these has been on a transition curve. Do I need to first make a turnout, get that aligned and then create a half diamond after that? Can anyone give me some pointers or tell me where I can read up on this(ideally an illustrated version as I'm not too good with just words alone!) I've attached my current box file. As you will see I've moved the goods shed lines out of the way temporally and the new siding running between the up and down main lines is not yet connected at either end. All the reports refer to Bootcamp, I don't know if the same problem exists with Parallels. Dave, I sent you a lock-release code for your Parallels installation. Have you tried it? It's in a PM because Comcast is refusing to accept my emails to you. It seems you may be able to solve the problem by upgrading the graphics card driver.
