... topic: 3671 Source for chairs or (US) "ties" that are not wood posted: 17 May 2020 19:19 from: John Webb Hi, I am brand new member of Templot Club and this is my first message. By way of introducing myself, I am American and model in G scale outdoors. I have a fairly extensive railroad almost entirely of Aristocraft prefabricated track. I would like to expand beyond the limited offerings by vendors of prefabricated track and build a 3-way switch (I believe Brits call them points or turnouts). I am looking for a source of non-wood (presumably plastic) material that could be used for ties (" chairs" in British parlance). I would like to find something that is impervious to weather, approximately the same dimensions as typical ties/chairs, solid (unlike Aristocraft, LGB etc.), and can be drilled to receive and hold spikes (in US fashion). Thanks in advance. John Webb Trinidad, CA USA posted: 17 May 2020 ...

... : Paul Boyd Bad Monday morning? Jeez- it must be. I thought I wrote that yesterday! I think that is a bit sweeping. Recently I helped a friend get started with ADSL broadband. He's out in the wilds of South Shropshire with an ancient overhead phone line stretched half-way across the Clee Hill. The line has caused ordinary phone problems in the past, and there was a warning from the ISP that the length of the line may cause trouble. At work we've finally succumbed to paying for a brand new line direct from the exchange to get something approaching 1M. Until that's installed, we're at the mercy of BT engineers swapping copper pairs around to whoever shouts loudest, and in the rain everyone can shout as much as they like because all the copper pairs become flaky. Even at home I only get around 4-5M Of course I don't know if this is just one-off luck, or typical of the system as a whole. Or maybe 2Mbps is a crap speed for you? Compared with the homing ...

... copying the content from 00-sf.org.uk shortly. regards, Martin. Hello Martin, I think your name of 00-SF is better than any of the alternatives. The arguments are simply from people who do not understand tolerances and the fact 00 refers to a scale/track standard combination that has varied over the years. There are also others with 'political agendas' who do not want to see change from existing 4mm foot scale and H0 scale standards. You have around 10 years of 'marketing' around the 00-SF brand. It's consistent with the 00 and 00-F scale track names, both standards use the same scale. Then there is 00-9, a different nominal track gauge, same scale. All the above 00 examples result with non interchange between the scale gauge standards, even when the nominal track gauge is the same. I say go back to using 00-SF. ... Paul Boyd Hi Stan The internal reference code is unique to the format of the hard drive, so if you reformat you lose the code, as you've found. I'm sure Martin will give you a new unlock code. As far as the overheating problem goes, if you have a "marginal" PC with regard to temperature, Templot can cause problems. The mouse actions can use as much CPU power as is available- in fact I used Templot as a test program when experimenting with CPU cooling. I don't know what brand computer you have, but most will be built with the absolute minimum cooling they can get away with which is fine for general office use, but not so fine with programs such as Templot that work the CPU hard. By the way, if you reinstalled and all is fine except for your lock code, the CPU isn't fried, but given what it's been through I would replace it and fit the biggest heatsink you can physically get in the case. ... file (still on XP) shows that the grid settings are saved as expected. Now on Vista, opening exactly the same file brings the grid up in the default metric setting. If this is saved, the metric settings are remembered (or perhaps any grid setting is lost) and also appear if the same file is subsequently opened on XP. The grid can be changed (in Vista) to 0.5ft spacings, but when saved the box file reverts to metric when reloaded either under Vista or XP. Similarly, a brand new layout created in Vista ignores any grid options saved with the BOX file. On the Vista machine, this occurs whether the files are loaded/saved over the LAN or locally. During these tests I'm also ensuring that I'm only running one copy of Templot at a time, between the two machines, to prevent problems with two copies trying to access the same file.
