... . The look I'm trying for is in this photo taken from the road bridge at the end of the platforms south end of the station. Looks very smooth at that distance with just the odd lump of detritus here and there. 2787_100216_220000000.jpg Thanks for your for your encouragement. Kind regards Andrew posted: 10 Aug 2018 13:40 from: Phil O Hi Andrew, Have you tried wood ash? This tends to be pretty fine, although you may need to sieve out bits of charcoal, where the wood has not fully burnt. ... -- I have now modified the extruder head so that (after removing the front fan assembly) I can access the grub screw by passing an Allen key through the blades of the extruder fan. This means that I can adjust the relative nozzle levels with the extruder head in situ. The result is that I have now installed and levelled two new nozzles, 0.6mm and 0.2mm (instead of both original 0.4mm), and both are feeding polymer successfully. Now celebrating with a boiled egg. The bad news -- two burnt fingers. cheers, Martin. posted: 12 Dec 2018 21:01 from: Rob Manchester Martin Wynne wrote: The bad news -- two burnt fingers. cheers, Martin. ... he cycles around one per week, and at the end of each day he runs a batch file that clones his main server disk to his plug-in hard drive. This way he always has the data for the last four weeks on a hard drive, handy in case of viruses, operating system corruption etc, and he has a separate daily copy of his critical data file as well on a DVD. It has proved useful as 30 minutes after leaving work one day a couple of years ago, his business was burnt to the ground, I was able to easily re-create his server and get him running again. Belt and braces type of approach, but worth it. And concerning your new PC, as its not going to be on the network, avoid Vista, it's too unstable at present, whereas XP with SP2 is quite reliable. Just remember to defrag once a week and keep the backups up to date... and test them from time to time....important! Regards... Rod. posted ...

... because a properly constructed switch runs better and will last for ever- solenoid or not. I had some EM gauge points made which I made from Peco individulay components in the late 1950's and operated by H&M solenoids which survived until 2001 when I converted to O gauge. The H&M solenoids are still in use! If they were still in production I might not have switched to stall motors of which I find the tortoise to be the best. The other stall motors and screw drives that I tried are either burnt out or relegated to operating signals and accessories while the other solenoids are all long gone. As far as hinged or flexible switch blades go it really does not make much difference as long as the blades are a reasonable length. At one time I had some short switches, A4( short A3 ?) in an industrial siding which gave me some trouble until I cut them to create a hinge but if you use B or longer blades you will have no trouble. I use hinged blades but that has more to do ...

... trains and take a few videos of trains running past the station and onto Greyhound Bridge. 33_290920_270000000.jpg The opportunity was also taken to put the Long Preston Fiddle Yard in place to try it out. The unanimous decision of the jury that was present was that it looked tired and wasn't up to the standard of the new boards. Also a lot of alteration are going to have to be made to the track layout to cope with the various traffics that are in the working timetable. This has meant a lot of midnight oil being burnt on Templot ovr the last 2 days to work out the layout of a new fiddle yard. I will upload a new box file in due course for comment. More midnight oil being burnt here Martin! When I served my apprenticeship in the P Way design office at Stephenson House all those years ago I remember being able to specify the rail spacing required for bespoke layouts, we always used standard sleeper spacing. I also remember being shown the pattern shop at Taylor Brothers' Sandiacre works where they had wooden patterns for every rail section they had ever had to use. They were able to adjust the spacing of the jaws for a double chair to suit. Of course, when vertical flatbottom design came along, ...

... so. In this case, had I known that the Templot installation being updated had been created not by the Templot installer program, but by copying via removable media from a different computer, I could have suggested immediately that the files have probably been set to read-only. In which case that would need to be changed via the file Properties before they can be updated. Or alternatively to create a new installation in a different folder. This is always the case with files copied via a CD-ROM, where once burnt-in they are physically read-only. I'm a bit surprised that the same happened for a memory stick. regards, Martin. posted: 2 Nov 2017 13:27 from: Judi R This seems to be a "feature" that Microsoft introduced with Windows 7 (or perhaps earlier). Rob posted: 10 Oct 2018 22:20 from: Martin Wynne It was a fine day today, but I didn't feel up to a long walk two days in a row, so I took myself down the road to Witley Court instead, for the first time in several years. 60 years ago the ruins were a playground for us local boys. The house had burnt down in 1937 and been left to rot. 20 years later the house was utterly derelict, the gardens were completely overgrown, the fountains smashed, and a couple of strands of barbed wire weren't going to keep us out. I do remember "Do Not Throw Stones At This Notice". The former kitchens were a maze of damp basements and stairways, where the smell of burning still hung in the air even after so many years. Nowadays the place has been utterly transformed by English Heritage, and has become one ...
