... Paul Boyd Hi Martin One area of Templot I have a question about is pegging a group onto a notch. What always seems to happen is that the peg is never in the right position on the template within the group. What I'm doing is to delete that template to current, putting the peg in the right place, storing it to the background then doing the Group select => Toggle thing, noting the warning about the group being linked to the notch. The whole group can then be correctly positioned. This feels clunky, so the first question is:- am I doing this the right way or have I missed something? What would be nice is to be able to shift the peg around within the group as if the whole group was a current template, but I guess that would be a tricky thing to sort out......which is where you say "but that's exactly what you can do by..." I'm sorry the WYSIWYG editor in IE and Firefox can be a bit clunky until you get used to it. (I chose this forum software for its full email capability and the editor came with it. If you go to the old-maps web site you will see in the column on the left several 1:2 ,500 maps available at different dates for Boscarne Junction: http://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/204180/67425/12/100954 (It's a clunky web site -- zoom out a bit if you can't see anything.) This was intended to be better suited to mobile devices, but I can't say I found it easy to use on them, especially the clunky format for the A-Z Index. 2. You can tweak it by adjusting the crossing entry straight. If you enter your actual measurements in place of my guesses, you should end up with a reasonable match. (The heel offset is measured running-edge to running-edge, NOT over or between the rails.) Bear in mind that this is not the intended way of using Templot, hence the clunky method of trial and error. Yes, I think I mentioned that I intended to use the old Windows ini files format, not least because it is fully supported by Delphi and Lazarus in the TStrings.Values function. It is already used for the save program preferences function, and I'm very comfortable with it. Templot does already include an open-source XML engine, used for the SK9 files for saving the sketchboard (in T2 only at present). But it is much more clunky to use than simple ini files, and the extra functions are not needed for a BOX contents file. Who's this "we"? I haven't said a word about readability, and I really don't see the need for it -- no-one is going to choose a MECBOX file for bedtime reading. Much more important is human decodability, which is easily provided by reference to the encoding list in the files. That's half the reason for making the code files open-source, surely? -s, - ...

I believe in many other countries a popular construction method is to use soldered copper-clad laminate for just a few of the timbers, with plastic or wood for the remainder. (That wouldn't look good in the UK, at least for bullhead track, because chaired bullhead requires a different timber thickness from soldered construction). There are several clunky ways which you might achieve the desired result in Templot, but none very straightforward or helpful. For example you could duplicate a template, set a marker colour on the lower one, and then omit some timbers on the upper template in the shove timber functions so that the coloured ones from below show through.
