I would go along with Paul, don't jump in so early. See what develops. As regards the above isn't it time to do a Microsoft and put a deadline to 074 and 082 and say no more support after such and such a date? After all it's not as if there is any extra cost of upgrading, unlike Microsoft? Alan posted: 8 Nov 2008 16:32 from: JFS Some interesting philosophical musings.... ... messages can be dismissed for the rest of the session after appearing once. The problem is that Templot is a recreational program. It's not like business software which you use every day. You might go 3 months without using Templot, and then need it to produce some templates. After that time it's very easy to forget how things work, which settings you have changed, and which messages you have dismissed. Please don't compare Templot with programs where productivity is important. Templot is for recreation and hobby use. There isn't a deadline to meet and no need to rush. What's a few extra clicks when most of your time in Templot is spent pondering the screen, referring to books and drawings, doodling on the back of an envelope, chewing the end of your pencil, and making another coffee? regards, Martin. posted: 16 Mar 2008 23:49 from: Martin Wynne Brian Lewis wrote: All these emails criticizing his 'bloatware' front end. ... topic: 1340 Admin: nothing more from me for a while posted: 17 Jan 2011 17:40 from: Martin Wynne Dear all, On 7th February it will be 3 years since version 091c of Templot was released. That's far too long between upgrades. Although I never quote a deadline, I had mentally set that as a target to get the next Pug released. That is only 3 weeks away, so there is now little chance of meeting it. But I don't want to let it drag on too far beyond then. The only way to have any chance is to stop doing any user support for a while. For example I have done no coding for several days because all my Templot time has been taken up with user support. So I won't be posting any more replies here for a while, or answering support emails. I hope I can rely on established members to help any beginner questions. Even then I may have to temporarily remove some of the unfinished new features I have been working on. There will also ...

... align things, however, on occasions I do get caught out when I just overdo it a tad with the zoom and background image still in view. Also I find I sometimes need to redo the positioning of track-work, particularly in very tight areas due to not being able to initially zoom in to place the items absolutely in the correct positions, thus resulting in infringements on clearances, particularly adjacent track. Also of course it slows things down quite a lot, but then I'm not galloping off to meet any particular deadlines! I thank you investigating this problem in detail, it appears unless NVIDIA does something about their chipset nothing will change, or we will all have to use ATI cards! As I mentioned before, I have a new PC on the go which is used at the moment for only graphics work, however, will have to add Templot (for which I need another licence) and see what happens. But first I will check what chipset is on board for the graphics card (I hope it's not NVIDIA !! ...

Often people seem to expect to understand both the program and the the complications of track work in an unrealistic time frame. "I've just bought Templot, next week I'll finish the layout". I think set track hs a bit to do with this... And they quit too fast as well. Possibly the unrealistic deadline. Don't take it personally Martin. Given the smallish size of the typical printer platen a complex formation would need to be assembled from several sections of timbering base, so a sub-panel of some kind would be needed to create a one-piece finished unit. Bad luck with your printer. ... sticking to the conventional Delphi style of camel case and spaces around operators. I couldn't get on with either of those, or with not having the thens and elses equally indented. Likewise begins and ends. I soon developed my own style, and have stuck with it unchanged for all these years. Camel case for Delphi's own identifiers, and lower case with underscores for my own. A useful distinction: I stuck with the Delphi style and fairly verbose naming principally because there were times when I was debugging code up against tight deadlines and I didn't want to use other styles which might have been OK at the time, but didn't help months later when I had forgotten about them. Our work normally came in about 1am and if a problem cropped up in use, I had to debug and re-write code to get the work on the van at 7am. So the last thing I wanted was "what the hell did I do there" moments. The worst night was when we got our first NTSC job and no one warned us beforehand ...

I try not to give timescales since life has a habit of getting in the way! The 1:12 common crossing chairs will be the next to be done as they're needed for Love Lane which will be appearing at the NEC in November -- a timescale and a deadline! These will then form the basis of the other common crossings (" just change a couple of dimensions" said one of the team!).
