... to know about the peg and notch if they find it difficult. In the later versions of Templot, templates can be quickly snapped together like set-track, using the F7 mouse action: f7_snap1.png f7_snap2.png More about this in this animation: http://www.templot.com/martweb/f7_snap_demo.htm Or alternatively, a track plan can be created using the extend and split functions, again without explicitly using the peg and notch, as shown in this video: http://www.templot.com/martweb/videos/flash/starter/em_starter.html The best advice to anyone having trouble getting into Templot is: 1. upgrade to the latest version 091c, It's free. Details at: topic 330 2. join this Templot Club user forum. This is all explained in my order confirmation letter, although I have come to the conclusion that hardly anyone ever reads it. The other common thread was an inability to understand the meaning of "Delete"and "Wipe" in the retrieval of templates. Delete has a finality about it in normal computer use!. ...

... curve, F7 to join. Calling up a turnout, using F3/F4 to lengthen, F5 to change the angle, inserting into a piece of plain track, Ctrl F6 to slide through a peg and Ctrl F9 to roam along. Let users grasp the basics and enjoy just putting a few pieces of track together. Hi Gordon, Many thanks for your thoughts. For a "getting started" guide, have you watched these two videos? http://www.templot.com/martweb/videos/flash/starter/em_starter.html http://www.templot.com/martweb/videos/flash/startup/startup_em.html Perhaps they just need more detailed notes? Notice that there is no use of the notch -- but also no use of F7 snapping. I'm really amazed if you are saying that you created your great track plan using only F7 snapping. Watch that first video again and see how easy it is to create a flowing track plan without ever actually joining anything to anything. This illustrates a major difficulty in writing a manual. There are several ...

I have just run the Video to do with Overlaying tracks on a rough sketch, a few things puzzled me which I am sure have simple answers. Hi Ken, That particular video is also available in Flash format with additional notes at: http://www.templot.com/martweb/videos/flash/starter/em_starter.html In fact it makes an ideal "starter" tutorial for those who don't want to bother with the original static "Track Plan" tutorial, and it uses several of the later functions in 091c. The original downloaded executable version of the video has been left for those who do not have Flash enabled in their browser. 1. The drawing pad starts with a small straight in the bottom corner. I assume this pad has been called up from a stored Template. Correct? No, it's the just current/control ...

... angle... menu item. Doing that repeatedly and pegging a dummy template onto it in each position provides the fixed markers which you requested. I fear from your questions that you are approaching Templot with a CAD mindset. As many have found that will lead to a lot of grief -- Templot is neither CAD nor a drawing package. For the best way of using Templot to create track plan, please watch again the starter video at: http://www.templot.com/martweb/videos/flash/starter/em_starter.html Could I add a gentle request for stuff like this to be in a written manual. I know it's a little contentious, but we all learn in different ways, and to me, having something in written form that I can read in the bath or wherever works a lot better than online help, which is good for specific issues, but just doesn't give you an overview of the whole thing. I'm sorry, but as stated on the web site a printed manual isn't part of the product -- and isn't ...

... The term "lap" turnout is not used in the UK. Your picture of a model turnout with the switches built into the vee rail of the preceding turnout doesn't have a name as far as I know. It's the sort of thing you can build quite easily in a model to save space, as in the Jing video which I posted earlier. There is another one for example in this video, in order to match the underlying sketch: http://www.templot.com/martweb/videos/flash/starter/em_starter.html However, it would require special construction on the prototype and should be avoided if possible. If there is no space for two conventional turnouts, a tandem turnout is more likely. If you have a prototype picture of such a construction, I would be very interested to see it. regards, Martin. posted: 12 Jul 2009 14:50 from: BruceNordstrand Thanks for all that info Martin, as helpful as ever and very much appreciated. This first starter video shows how to make basic adjustments to a single template: http://www.templot.com/martweb/videos/flash/startup/startup_em.html I have a project in mind that looks a little like the west end of Barnstaple Junction at one end and some complex pointwork at the other. Hi Jim, Bruce, It certainly is possible, and here's a video to get you started on that way of working: http://www.templot.com/martweb/videos/flash/starter/em_starter.html For a large layout it is probably better to do as Paul suggests and lay out the sweeping curves first, using the "make transition" function between them. That way you know everything is going to fit and your radius constraints will be met. You can then insert turnouts in the templates and continue as in the video to create each area of pointwork. But before doing any of that I would strongly suggest playing about with individual turnouts in the control template. Curving them; extending them; shortening them; trying ...

... users in not making some more progress with the Templot Explained basics: http://templot.com/companion/templot_explained.html I will try to get more done on that as soon as possible. In the meantime, the answer to your question is that most of the time you don't make templates line up with one another. What you do is create them already in alignment. Have a look at this video and notice that there is no F7 snapping: http://templot.com/martweb/videos/flash/starter/em_starter.html This page also shows templates being created without any F7 snapping: http://templot.com/companion/link_existing.html contd... regards, Martin. posted: 19 Sep 2017 23:53 from: Martin Wynne... But there are then much better ways of doing it than F7 snapping, with far more options, and total control over what's happening. For example here I have shortened the turnout-road exit almost ...
