A mixture of things really. The layout was extended once with the addition of an off scene industrial siding, which required the replacement of a turnout with an outside slip, but mostly it was down to errors and amendments made over the course of time. The most recent change (from issue 8 to 9) was replacing the pencil drawn original with the computer graphic I posted, but I took the opportunity to update one of the point motor numbers from M2 to M2a for clarity. This change had been noted in red ink on the earlier working copy some years ago ...

That makes it more likely that others will notice it too. For example in the latest program update I added the extend/shorten to meet functions. I have found them extremely useful and time-saving, and I've been kicking myself for not doing some such years ago. See: topic 2969 I prepared a short tutorial page about them (begin paragraph 6): http://templot.com/companion/link_existing.html But so far silence. When you move the ends of the two templates close enough they will snap together automatically. There is also a rather more elegant way of of doing this with the transition curve method. Move the peg to the end of the template you wish to fix or peg to the Trackpad. Ctrl 0 or Ctrl 1. Use the F4 key to extend the length of the control template. Then selected the Geometry drop down menu, go to the transition curve sub menu and choose one of the options such as C curve expanding transition. This will generate a transition curve with the larger radius twice the smaller one if your starting track was curved. Now repeat the process but this time choose the Zero-length instant transition at peg option. You can now adjust the boundary between the two radius by using Shift+ Ctrl+ F3 adjust transition start position. You can adjust ...

It allows the lengthening or shortening of the main road but it appears to do very strange things: If the turnout is inserted in a length of track then the main-road exit can only be shortened, in which case, the sleepers are left in position. It cannot be lengthened, beyond the template but the length indication says that it is lengthening. The extension can be split off. This is the same for a minted turnout, the turnout main rails cannot be extended beyond the minted limit. The above would seem to be the opposite of the turnout-road exit function which can be extended but doesn't have sleepers and cannot be split off. ... topic: 3710 Turnout road check rail lengths+ tags disappearing posted: 26 Jun 2020 19:06 from: Paul Boyd Hi Martin I think I've found a bug or two! Box file attached. Firstly, when extending the check rails near or beyond the ends of the turnout, main road or turnout road, the label for the end of the check rail disappears and there doesn't seem to be a way to get it back other than doing a "reset all". (Unless it still happens to be the one currently being adjusted, of course) Secondly, on the turnout or diamond road, we can't always extend the check rails very far, and this seems to be inconsistent. On the box file, DS2 has been extended as far as it'll go, and the label has been lost. This does only seem to affect the turnout or diamond side, I've extended main side check rails for miles to get check-railed plain track (and blanked of the turnout itself!) Over and above any other issues that I've probably screwed up, I would like advice/comment as well on two further points. a) I extended the top check rail over the full width of the crossover while leaving the bottom check rails split. On further consideration if this were to be done perhaps the inner (bottom) curve, if any. would have the extended check rail. What is the best way? b) The Right Diamond is as it was generated by Templot whereas I attempted to extend the Left Diamond checkrails to meet and form a 'point' which I wasn't able to do. 1) is the Right Diamond, as is, adequate for safe operation? ...

Otherwise it asks you to specify which intersection you mean, as in the alert dialog above. Clearly it's not this one, as there is no track there. There are some limitations on the design of the new storage roads:-- we cannot extend the straight sections of the layout since the straight scenic part is an accurate re-creation of the prototype.- the layout has exhibition commitments for the new few years (when the extension is planned to be built) and has to be kept 'on the circuit' whilst the majority of the new construction takes place.
