... topic: 856 Warning -- Firefox users please read posted: 8 Jun 2009 12:40 from: Martin Wynne This is a serious warning from a respected source. If you are using Firefox you may want to check Tools> Add-ons to see if Microsoft have installed this extension without your permission. Please be aware that modifying the Windows Registry is not for the faint-hearted, and could seriously damage your system if you get it wrong. In a recent update of the .NET framework Microsoft silently installs an extension to your Firefox browser if it is found on your system. This extension enables websites you visit with Firefox to silently install software on your computer, thus injecting the most serious flaw of Internet Explorer into Firefox. Microsoft installs this extension in such a way that it cannot be removed directly by the user -- it is listed in the Extensions list but Uninstall is disabled. This is not a bug -- this is the intended functionality of the Firefox extension, probably to enable Microsoft to install software on your machine when ...

Hi Andy, Thanks for the file. It is indeed in the text version of DXF so I can read it, thanks for that. (If you change the file extension to .txt you can read it in Windows Notepad or wherever.) Unfortunately I haven't been able to extract anything meaningful from it. I tried opening it in half a dozen programs, and the only one which would even look at it was, er, Templot. I used the DXF import in the background shapes (you saved it in INCH units), and got this: 2_050214_470000000.png but no sign of a chair. ... topic: 515 Warning -- SVR SignalBox data files posted: 5 Aug 2008 18:49 from: Martin Wynne Dear all, When I first developed the Windows version of Templot 10 years ago, I searched quite hard for other users of the .box file extension. The only one I could find was an obscure preferences file for something called Lotus Notes, which is or was "an integrated desktop client option for accessing business e-mail, calendars and applications on an IBM Lotus Domino server". Which isn't something likely to be found on a home computer, so I thought it safe to adopt the .box extension for Templot's storage box data files. But it seems that the SVR's SignalBox simulator program is also using the .box extension for its parameter files. I don't know why my searching didn't find that, perhaps SignalBox is a more recent program. It's unfortunate to say the least -- two railway-hobby applications using the same file extension. During installation of Templot there is an option to associate .box files with Templot, and it's ...

This is my best effort to represent a country goods shed with office extension, internal platform and awning over the loading doors. As you can see, it won't win any prizes: 2_292139_500000000.gif I saved it as a GIF image with transparent background. And this is what it looks like inserted on the sketchboard as a bitmap item. I rotated it into line with the track, stretched it to the correct size, and gave it a little transparency to show the internal track: 2_292139_510000001.png Now such objects can be drawn directly on the sketchboard with vector precision if desired. But it would be great to have a selection gallery of such clip-art items ready to just pick and place. If we assume that for sidings etc at least, pre WWI turnouts were activated by an independent fixing of the point rodding to the nearest switch blade, can we assume that the rod itself would prevent the point blade rising or moving in relation to the stock rail (apart from laterally). If this is the case, and looking at the drawing which Martin posted earlier- 2999_220303_540000000.jpg would it be right to assume that the extension shown on the right hand side of the drawing projecting through the stock rail, achieves the same thing on the side opposite to the actuation rod? Edit- correction, looking again at the drawing it would appear that there is no extension through the stock rail- I assume therefore that the switchblade relies on the undercut of the planing to ensure against lift? Am I right in assuming that the extension is primarily used where the stock rail is joggled? Last edited on 24 Oct 2017 08:44 by Tim Lee posted ...

... May 2018 16:55 from: richard_t Hello I've been wondering on the location of the blunt nose of a common crossing on the "A" timber. In the Scale 7 information sheet "Prototype Track Design and Construction" Figure 7 suggests that's it's 4" from the centre line of the timber. And that's the default Templot uses. But I can't see how this can be the case for either built up chairs or solid cast iron chairs. In the case of built up chairs, the crossing has a 3 inch extension in front of the blunt nose, which is bolted through the chair and the timber: 499_121146_390000000.png (Dimensions are for 7mm/ft with full size inches in square brackets) British Railways Track (ed 3), Figure 40 also shows a figure of 4", but this is from the center line of the chair, which is backed up by a footnote to Table 13 "The 'A' Chair comes under the nose of the crossing, the centre of the chair being 4" from the blunt nose". ...

My real road to Damascus moment was building my first 2mm track. It just looked right, even allowing for my uneven soldering so consigned the N gauge track to the toy box. There are some limitations on the design of the new storage roads:-- we cannot extend the straight sections of the layout since the straight scenic part is an accurate re-creation of the prototype.- the layout has exhibition commitments for the new few years (when the extension is planned to be built) and has to be kept 'on the circuit' whilst the majority of the new construction takes place. At this stage we think a new fiddle yard of similar dimensions to the existing one- but built about a metre behind it and accessed via double junctions may be the best solution. There were extensive salt workings, but these sent the salt down to barges on the navigation by chutes. When the railways came there were works sidings which came directly off the branch lines, not via the station.
