... topic: 1188 Newbie- How to set sleeper size and spacing to match Peco sleepers. posted: 4 Aug 2010 09:58 from: grog_polymer Title says it all. How do I set sleeper size and spacing to match Peco flex track? Regards, Greg posted: 4 Aug 2010 11:27 from: Martin Wynne grog_polymer wrote: How do I set sleeper size and spacing to match Peco flex track? Hi Greg, Easier to answer if you provide the details. How long are the sleepers? How wide are they? How many per yard length? (or metre length?) regards, Martin. posted: 5 Aug 2010 09:29 from: grog_polymer Lots of templot reading today- several aspects cleared up some more questions in other areas to come. Back to the plot... I only had a piece of code 100 to go by but I believe they are the same webbing I went through the real timbers other size part. I only have code 100 track and turnouts at present as that was to be ...

... topic: 1191 Newbie- Missing something- symbols??? posted: 8 Aug 2010 04:27 from: grog_polymer 1920_072313_480000000.png Ok- this is a simple plan that I have been playing with in order to come start to come to grips with Templot. Yes slips would help but I have no idea what is going on with the slip video at all. Later... There are several places on this diagram where a yellow circle and a cross through it appear. What are they and what are they trying to tell me? Where I put a return curve from the platform 1/2 entry turnout to Platform1 road it shows a square with a cross through it. Again, what are they and what are they trying to tell me? I use a mouse with a scoll wheel. For those that don't know, in windows Ctrl+ scroll will incease and decrease the zoom. This will help in seeing the markers I am taling about. In 9.1c the scroll wheel performs a zoom function. I like that! Regards, ...

... topic: 1192 Can't get transition to straight/from straight to work during one of track plan tutorial posted: posted: 10 Aug 2010 10:07 from: grog_polymer Ho all, I am doing the "Track Plan Tutorial" in 0.91c. Some of the shortcut keys don't seem to work as described but I expect that to be a version specific thing. Indeed shortcuts are only shortcuts if you can remember them. It does take a while looking for where things are in menus etc though. This specific issue: I had added the works siding by adding a branch track from the loop to works siding. I have tried to make a transition to straight to make the end of the works siding straight. No matter which end I put the peg the straight always ends up at the turnout. The notch is there and I suspect that is why. I have tried adding the transition and doing end for end etc but nothing makes it right. Picture attached.1920_100452_420000000.png There are a couple of other things that I am not clear on. I ...

... topic: 1187 Newbie- Chair Types posted: 4 Aug 2010 09:55 from: grog_polymer I have followed some articles on this site about different chair types and placement. Is there anything out there that shows pictures of the different chair types and describes their uses? I am absolutely going to get started with PCB pointwork and avoid that question preventing me from starting building track. But I am looking to mix Peco Code 75 flex and haid laid track. Chairs will be obviously missing with this situation so I either need to resolve that or just do PCB everywhere which will increase the build time. Regards, Greg posted: 4 Aug 2010 10:46 from: Nigel Brown Hi Greg Do you really want to do that? You can buy code 75 flex track from suppliers such as C& L which is much closer to prototype dimensions, and hence to Templot, which will look much better when finished. You can also buy point kits which will provide chairs and information on how to use them. You could of course construct PCB pointwork ...

... topic: 1193 Track plan tutorial again- Track handedness, negative radius turnouts and crossings posted: 10 Aug 2010 10:16 from: grog_polymer In the Track plan tutorial it also says that looking from the peg at Pos 0 RH refers to the direction of positive radius. This seems really bizare as a track curving to the left is considered to be Right Handed but with negative radius. I don't understand that. There are also a couple of references to shorter crossings being acceptable for turnouts with significant negative radius. Is this due to the fact that the deflection through the crossing is shallow on both roads? ... topic: 1194 Trimming turnouts posted: 10 Aug 2010 10:27 from: grog_polymer I know that I will probably come to this later in the tutorials but there are a couple of places where I have found that the alignment on the entry to a turnout with a track that was made as double track does not quite align at the end of the turnout be it the approach, the branch or the length to use terms relating to how they are fashioned on a single turnout. If I move the peg along a little and make a separate exit road etc. will this let me trim the turnout down? Regards, Greg posted: 11 Aug 2010 11:09 from: Martin Wynne grog_polymer wrote: If I move the peg along a little and make a separate exit road etc. will this let me trim the turnout down? Hi Greg, You can shorten a turnout template back towards the toe (CTRL-0 end) by as much as you wish, using the F4 overall length mouse action. Alternatively you can blank out ...

... topic: 1196 Newbie- needing to understand Handedness, switches and crossings much better. posted: 11 Aug 2010 02:19 from: grog_polymer I went back to the companion and had a look at the switch and crossing sections under real track. 1920_101644_010000000.jpg What confused me is the "End of turnout curve" because I had expected the turnout to continue to curve after the entry straight. So I went back to tors and had a look at the radii and centres of entry, exit, branch and the turnout itself. I was surprised that the branch track was was not at the substitution radius but rather all track elements shared a common track centre line radius but that the branch line just had an appropriate offset for the centre of its curvature. I also played around with the entry straight length. I was also trying to get a grip on why a left or right had turnout mattered when many of the negative turnouts appear very "Y" like and I could not understand why it mattered. If I understand correctly now: a turnout ...
