... sheet in front of me, and 'playing with Templot for a while, things soon came together. So, as others have said, have a 'play' first of all then get serious. When you get down to the actual plane, try this. It might sount a bit like going two steps back and one forward but it worked for us. If you havene't got the boards already built, draw them full size on a role of lining paper. Mark where you would like the tracks to be situated but most importantly where they cross the baseboard joints. Measure the points at which this happens and transfer these points to baseborads drwan in Templot. Thses are drawn as 'shapes' and appear in the screen. using the right measurements, they can appear as a series of shapes joined to each other. Now lay pieces of plain track onto the screen and make sure they pass through the points of reference you took from the full size plan. Save this plan and the shapes. Now start 'playing until you acheive your gaol. Please mail ...

Wot I do is "plonk 'em down" where they seem to fit Perhaps, more importantly, I'm just a wee bit alarmed that so few (possibly not any) modellers have jumped on the 3D bandwagon. I think I offered to make my models available to anyone who wants to give it a shot, but so far the reaction has been, to put it mildly, just a bit underwhelming- OK, it was non-existent. But the simplest solution is to do as I do -- as a page comes off the printer, if it is deemed to be ok for use, I write some notes on it about where it fits in the scheme of things and any special settings used. Such notes could of course be entered into Templot beforehand, but then you would have two big problems -- a) remembering to do it, but more importantly b) for Templot to work out where on the page to print it so that it doesn't interfere with the drawing detail. Retail is quite a challenge at the moment going through, as is I suppose patently obvious, the biggest challenges it's probably ever experienced. That is trying to understand and cope with the internet! To do this I believe one needs a strong, lively and dedicated team of people who love what they're doing and are motivated by strong interest in the product( Cookware and the end result food, in our case) and the success of the company. And importantly who really enjoy working with each other. A combination of good luck and taking our time when choosing new people has really helped us meet this challenge. So sorry I'll get off my soapbox now, but as you can probably tell from various conversations we've had in recent times I can get as obsessive about what makes good business as I can about tiny trains! More importantly, how do I make one? On the few pictures I can find it looks as if many modellers have left the rail straight and just filed the tip off at an angle. I cannot find any pictures of the real K-crossing crossing pre-grouping or even in the early days of grouping. But I would have thought that if you make the rail head like this, it will mean that the rail head is not supported at the tip by the rail web? So should these rails be made in the same way as a V-crossing point rail? i.e. bend 10mm (in 0 gauge) towards the running face, file railhead only on the running side to make the running surface straight again; and then file the crossing angle on ...

I'm currently looking the design of a 2 by 4 road fiddleyard for a generic "roundy roundy" where the turnouts take the minimum possible space thus allowing for the maximum storage within the area available. Doesn't everyone? However, I would like to reiterate, that the development and introduction of irregular diamonds and mouse action adjustment of check rails& wing rails is the brilliant light year advance that was needed to shorten template production of ones track plan. Most importantly, as Paul B said, it all works very well, hence no postings needed, other than perhaps from complete new starters who know not how to use Templot. Well done Martin. It has made my job much easier, and allowed me to produce an accurately placed, completed trackplan of a complicated system in a short space of time, albeit, that lots of tidying up was, and still is, needed afterwards. Is there a tutorial showing how to add a single bladed catch point within a turnout? (In effect I need to make the point to the works siding 3-way, but with only a single blade turning to the right). Thanks Arthur Hi Arthur. More importantly you also need a Trap point (not a Catch point) in the works siding to prevent wagons rolling out across the main line. Something I normally look for but overlooked as I was more concerned with the timbering. The Omit rails option used to be under Real several versions back, but as Martin has already noted, it is now under the Do menu, it still catches me out occasionally. Tony. Most importantly wheels see through and looked fine. The pastry cutter flanges were gone. I have measured an Austerity tank and a coal wagon for you. The chair jaws part on the Exactoscale chair are smaller but the baseplate part (if that's the correct terminology) is bigger. I have used the bridge chairs from Exactoscale and running rail chairs from C&L on a project before now, once painted you won't be able to tell the difference. More importantly in 7mm scale terms for those of GW persuasion C&L do the correct slide rail chairs but Exactoscale don't. Hopefully people will realise that there may be other easier ways of making the common crossing. Secondly and perhaps more importantly the cost of having a fully detailed turnout using components rather than kits to build them has been proved not to be much more than a RTR standard product What I would say to keep costs down is to vary the size of the turnouts so you use as many of the different sizes as possible.
