... are: Check rails- this was done from a description of a track plan, so I have basically guessed at what I think ought to work. Timbering- I am told that the prototype turnouts should have timbers normal to the centreline. I can't see how that would work on a scissors. Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks, Bill Attachment: attach_650_938_scissors_09_09_16_2 349_50.box 336 posted: 19 Sep 2009 19:05 from: Paul Boyd Hi Bill That looks good. As far as the check rails are concerned, I would be inclined to make the ones leading into the diamond a little longer because they're barely covering the diamond crossings. probably another couple of feet should do it. The attached box file explains it better than words! I think the timbering is correct for the scissors turnouts- it should be normal to the centreline of the main road. One thing that seems odd at first glance is the adjacent track spacings on the scissors. I assume that's deliberate? Right then- now put the whole lot on a curve Cheers Attachment: attach_651_938_scissors_09_09_19_1 904_04.box ...

I have a CJF plan that I need temploted by someone as I simply have not the time or inclination to persue the "doing" of this myself. (I am honest!) As such I am more than prepared to pay someone to create the Templot plan for me such that I can then order the timber track bases from Brian at C&L. I am not going to be as vulgar as to propose rates and even the scope here suffice to say that there are 8 points, no slips or other such silliness and it is in SF00 (surprise hey!) For most UK FB rail, that means setting the rail head width to 4.1/8" (4.125") at real> rails> rail section data... menu item. That assumes of course that your model rail section has the correct scale foot width (5.1/2 "). If not adjust accordingly. Likewise increase the width if you are using inclined rail. My priority at present is to get the Sketchbook and PDF output finished. The Sketchbook needs platforms, which is why I've been working on the platform edges. In addition I've been working on saving program settings between sessions. That's a can of worms if ever I've seen one. I've now done what I should have done in the first place, and had a go at establishing the vanishing point for all the known horizontal parallel lines within the original building (yellow lines): siding2_2.jpg Which makes it clear that I was wrong -- the no.2 siding track (pink line) doesn't continue straight through this turnout. There must be a curve in there between the end of the coach and the ground signal, although it's very difficult to see. However, I'm still inclined to say that the turnout itself is straight (and left-hand), because the near rails are clearly straight. (It's not possible for a curved object in a single plane to appear straight in a photograph.) It is strange therefore that there is no mention of it anywhere in the bullhead stuff, nor does it appear on any drawing I have ever seen for undercut (unjoggled) switches. That reference has been removed from BRT4 (1971), as also has most of the stuff about straight and semi-curved switches, and straightcut or undercut planing. It is all about the curved switches and chamferred planing for the BS-110A and BS-113A FB inclined designs, and the later vertical designs. The reference to 4" makes no sense, but I'm not going to say any more just now about the position of the set, because it is a nice sunny day and I have spent enough of it already in front of the computer. At that stage their drawing shows an outside slip associated with the 1 in 4 diamond further up. This LNWR drawing I have must represent a stage in the development. A standard L1 bridge chair requires 7" clear from the rail running edge on the key side, so allowing for an angle between them we can see where the 15" separation limit comes from, below which the special crossing chairs are needed. (L1 chairs can get quite a bit closer if you turn them round and use them inside-keyed, but that is avoided as far as possible because of the rail inclination.) The X8 timber above has 15.5" separation at the position shown, so two bridge chairs will fit, and the timber position isn't tightly controlled by the chair design.
