... crossing (frog), but I think that would be unlikely for the date of the drawing (1938), and also the drawing appears to show separate point and splice rails at the vee, although the scan is not very clear. To replicate the mixed flares in Templot would require splitting the check rails out to a separate partial template. Hi Alan, Thanks for your quick stab at the design in 7mm/ft scale. Using a UK-pattern curved C switch from the BS-110A/BS-113A inclined FB series is inventive, but I think the drawing shows a 13ft-6in (162") straight loose-heel switch. Full switch details are not shown on this drawing, but from the points deflection angle given (1deg,55',1.0''), the heel offset would be 5.3/8" (5.375"). A custom switch should be possible based on this. The timber spacings shown for the switch imply that the points (blade tips) are in fresh air overlapping the toe ...

... flexible, or more balanced in terms of operation. Here's a few thoughts. a) Can't see anywhere on the LMS side where you could store a few coaches while goods operations are going on. If you shifted the release crossover on the left some way to the right you could leave coaches in the platform while still having enough room beyond for a goods locomotive to run around its train. b) Not sure where your LMS plaform(s) is/are, but if they're below the main platform lines I'd be inclined to change your right-hand release crossover for a left-hand, which would be more normal. It would also give you a bit more storage space on the end of the upper track. c) I'd extend the LMS loop to beyond (to the right of) 29, and finish it in a right-hand crossover. The upper track to the right of the crossover could be a head-shunt, which would allow shunting operations to take place clear of the main running line. Extending the loop ...

... one go all part of learning i suppose. posted: 26 Sep 2014 17:47 from: Brian Nicholls Hi Simon, I have had a go at your track plan and laid out as near as one can to the planned roads. See attached box file. However, your plan is somewhat distorted due to the original angle that the photo was taken, so had to make the best assumptions. I have kept your original adjacent track spacing the same as you had started, at 44.67mm, but I would have been inclined to increase this to 50mm, since some of the curves are approaching minimum radius. However, this would have needed changes to the side banking at the lower far left of the plan, in order to get the tracks in. It is already very tight there anyway, so you may need to modify those banks. I have tried to maintain all the turnouts to a 1:6 crossing angle, but have had to change one which is part of a 3 way tandem at the centre of the plan. I ...

... plan. But I can see the advantage in having different shapes in different colours, so I will see if there is any way to add something. For example you could have an option for short lines to be in green, medium lines in blue, long lines in red, say. This wouldn't require any changes to the file format. For construction guide lines the length may not be significant. regards, Martin. posted: 3 Sep 2014 17:40 from: Trevor Walling Hello Martin, Will you never feel inclined to say Templot does enough now? ... 23:10 from: Richard_Jones Hi, It looks as though the motor on my Unimat SL is on it's last legs- yes, I know you can get a replacement from Rejon Engineering, but at £225, that's quite a long way towards a new lathe. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the best buys for a small lathe and mill/drill machine for someone working predominantly in 4mm scale? best wishes Richard posted: 8 Jul 2014 00:46 from: Brian Nicholls Hi Richard, I would be inclined to ask the same question on the following RmWeb site: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/forum/64-kitbuilding-scratchbuilding/ There are quite a lot of people on that topic who use such machine tools. A fellow who's id is 'buffalo' is quite knowledgeable about the type of machine you are seeking. The track to the right leads to the Engine House visitor centre which now occupies the site of the former exchange sidings for Highley colliery. There is a walk through the woods on the right up the former incline to the site of the colliery which is now a country park. http://www.highleystation.co.uk http://www.svr.co.uk/EngineHouse.aspx http://shropshirehistory.com/mining/mines/highley.htm With the slight change of emphasis on Templot start-up from individual turnouts to flowing curved track design I thought the splash photo should do the same. ... to me that what is needed more than anything is a precursor video which doesn't even mention Templot, but is designed to get modellers from commercial track to the handbuilding mindset, with some knowledge about prototype UK track thrown in. I don't know the answer to any of that, which is perhaps another way of saying that I'm not the right person to do it. Meanwhile, I really must get 227a released, which means that I don't have time at present to do any of that (nor if I'm honest, much inclination -- the coding is far more interesting). cheers, Martin.
