... using the signal box diagram. Deceptively simple ideas are often the inspired ones, and your idea seems to come very much in that category. You're right of course about the signals which aren't on that plan but need to be included and although I've allowed for them electronically I've not yet given them sufficient thought physically in either location or construction method. As a result of a comment of Howard Bolton's that I came across the other day I've been following Steve Hewitt's authoritative thread in RM Web on signal construction which is both fascinating and instructive. Now your thoughts on fault finding have set me thinking as to whether I've got enough places to "break" wires for fault finding. That'll require a bit more thinking I think, so for the moment I'll conclude by thanking you for your comments on on your connection with Yeovil and the compliment of it being "in safe hands". I was really quite touched by your words. Kind regards Andrew posted: 7 Nov 2017 22:37 from: Tony W Hi Andrew. One other thing. You may ...

... 359 Making Common Crossings- how should the tip appear? posted: 10 Mar 2008 17:21 from: Brian Tulley Hi all, I spent yesterday trying my hand at forming a common crossing (Code 75 B/H rail) using the EMGS/Portsdown Models Common Crossing Filing& Assembly Jig. However, whilst I have no concerns regarding filing the mating faces of the Splice Rail and Point Rail, I am a little confused regarding the filing of the outer faces of the tip of the common crossing. In the instructions it says "File the Rail flush with the jig...."; however there is no mention of how far the rail should be protruding from the jig before filing commences. This filing removes both head and foot of the rail from both the Splice and Point Rails at the tip- is this correct? I am wondering if I should perhaps leave any filing operations on the tip of the crossing until after soldering? How should I file the tip i.e. what appearance? Any links to photos (ideally ...

In doing this, I now realise that I have produced another document that may be of use to others regarding this topic, so have decided to post it, in the hope that it is of some help. (see attachéd PDF file below) Please note, there are not so many screenshots as Richard's original, but my document covers every move (in words and instructions) that is required to complete an irregular diamond crossing from start to finish. I would be most grateful for any feedback on this document, just to see if it is of help and if it requires further explanations and modifying. All the best, Brian Nicholls. ... no good software if it is not accompanied by equally good manuals that are equally as good. I heartily concur. I have all but given up on Templot, because I just do not know what to do. Yet I must be one of the earliest purchasers of the programme. Somebody mentioned this morning 'turning the snapping on and off'. Mine seems to be off, but I could not turn it on if I wanted to, simply because I not not how and moreover, I know not where to look for instructions. We have an apparent stalemate- for years I have been saying we really need a fully indexed 'How to...' booklet. I recall I even offered to print and publish it. Martin counters this suggestion with two oft repeated comments: 1. "You cannot have enhancements if I am spendimg time engaged on other things". Possibly true, but what good are enhancements if you cannot get to grips with the basic programme? Now Martin is a helpful chap and produces 'one off solutions' to help ...

If I was in your position, I think now would be a good time to stop development work and sort out the help notes and tutorials. As I said before, Templot is not intuitive to use and needs effort from the user to get the best from it. That's hard to do when users can't find up to date instructions on how to do things. I wonder what percentage of Templot users use this forum? I bet it's very low. I suspect that what might happen, especially as it's now free, is that people will download it, struggle, then complain on other forums that Templot is rubbish. I would really hate to see that, as I'm sure you would. But the main thing is, thanks for Templot! Cheers posted: 31 May 2012 23:48 from: Nigel Brown Martin I think Templot2 is all good ...

This instruction guide was published before in a previous posting, but since Martin has kindly given us a particular separate "Tips and tutorials" posting area, I thought it only right to re-post in the correct place for easy access (see attached PDF file "How_to_Construct_an_Irregular_Diam ond_Crossing_v2.pdf" below). I've also read the recent exchanges re:Brighton tandems, but still can't work out what I'm doing wrong. I've positioned the peg using CTRL-F8 on the intersection of the two rails and put the notch on the peg. I've created a new template with the crossing at 1:12 (it's obviously going to be much more than that anyway), curviform, and gaunt options selected as per instructions. I then peg this to the notch (using the *multiply key). The notes then suggest using F6 to adjust the curvature to match the underlying template- but it's obvious that the control template is not aligned over the background template(s) at all and adjusting it's radius is not going to alter that. But there is no mention of needing to use F8 to rotate the template to get an alignment- which is what leads me to conclude that I must have gone astray somewhere. What am I ...
