... posted: 31 Oct 2010 05:07 from: Martin Wynne Hi Mike, I have now made a bit of video showing how to create a simple concentric/parallel running loop: running loop video Click the Play button bottom-left to start it. Sorry it's so scruffy and unfinished, I'm a bit too busy coding to make a tidier version (videos take hours and hours to do properly). For a non-concentric loop, see this tutorial instead: http://www.templot.com/martweb/info_files/make_trans.htm regards, Martin. posted: 31 Oct 2010 23:40 from: Mike Huxley Hi Martin, Many thanks for your vidio, it explains all I needed to know and has helped me a lot. Since my first post on help I've been experimenting and learning more all the time. I think it pays to start small and expand as your comfort with the programme expands. ... I would find some indication of when and when not to use transitions useful. Robert Preston Attachment: attach_849_1217_inside_curve.box 200 posted: 26 Aug 2010 22:31 from: Martin Wynne Hi Robert, There are several possible solutions, but the simplest is two transition curve templates: 2_261703_520000001.png These have a common radius of about 1315mm at the centre, reducing to about 1120mm radius at the outer ends. I created them using the "make transition" function, described in this tutorial: http://www.templot.com/martweb/info_files/make_trans.htm First I did tools> make branch track on the turnout templates. Then I positioned a dummy template (blue) outside of them using the F10 swell mouse action: 2_261703_510000000.png Then use "make transition" to the dummy template to create each transition curve template. It needs a bit of fiddling about with the radii -- the curves must come as close together as possible without actually touching, and they must do it at locations well clear of the centre section, and clear of the turnouts. Otherwise the resulting transition ...

Cheers Bruce posted: 12 Apr 2010 17:07 from: Martin Wynne BruceNordstrand wrote: Is this anywhere in the doco's as the error message is confusing. Purely by luck I just swapped the peg position to see what would happen. Hi Bruce, Yes it is, but perhaps not too easy to find. See para 10 at: http://www.templot.com/martweb/info_files/make_trans.htm from which: If one of the original templates was itself a transition template, the new transition will be matched to it according to the position of its fixing peg. The same information is available within the program by clicking the geometry> transition curve>? transition help menu item, followed by clicking the about the make transition function button. and also at: peg/align tools> make transition curve from the control template>? make transition help menu item. So that's 3 separate places containing the information you were ...

... to create a transition there must be a gap between the tracks before you start. 2_110305_280000000.png If you put the fixing peg at the top end of the control template, and then reduce the radius slightly (F6 mouse action) until there is a gap between the centre-lines, it will then be possible to create a transition curve between them. The larger the gap, so the longer will be the resulting transition zone. There is a tutorial explaining this at: http://www.templot.com/martweb/info_files/make_trans.htm It can be helpful to temporarily change the control template to a centre-line only -- geometry> track centre-lines only menu item. (N.B. occasionally when one template is straight, Templot gets confused. This can be cured by swapping the templates, i.e. put the control template on the background and delete the background template to the control template.) regards, Martin. posted: 11 Jul 2009 08:38 from: BruceNordstrand Thanks Martin, I'll do as suggested and have another go. ... (3) or (4) but I buggered things up so had to delete the original. So my question really is that if making some formation that ties back into a previous stage of drawing, how do you do that? Hi Paul, If you want to link plain track between two existing templates which can't be changed, the usual way is to use the make transition function. Add temporary dummy templates at each end if necessary to allow this. See: http://www.templot.com/martweb/info_files/make_trans.htm Reworking a plan while keeping some of it fixed can be quite tricky -- starting again is often less hassle. Generally cramped shunting plans such as this are more difficult than open sweeping plans, because every millimetre of siding clearance is important, and slight changes of crossing angle or switch type can make a big difference. Looking quickly at your plan, the main problem seems to be the 1:6 crossing angle on turnout 8. If you change that to 1:6.5 (put the peg on CTRL-0 ...
