... will scream the dreaded words "compromise"). I have tried ringing the changes, such as changing from B to C or D type turnouts (and/or visa versa) and in some cases this has worked and created alignment of both sides, but alas not in every case. Now although I would agree that some fault may lie in possible inaccuracies of the original drawing, but it may not be that in all cases. To achieve complete alignment, I would have to make the particular turnout side as a partial and align it to the drawing, but this would mean it is not a standard turnout, is this a good or bad idea? Now if I am not mistaken, I believe most, if not all, switch chairs types are made to a standard (not withstanding individual company manufacturing), and can be used for all switches? Thus for a longer turnout, more of appropriate chairs would be used, and the radius of the turnout would be more gradual. This brings me to a further question, are ...

By ignoring the straight road the original request would also be met. What do you think? Hi Peter, Thanks for your thoughts. Templot has always been able to create mixed-gauge pointwork. See for example the sample mixed-gauge crossover here: topic 289 The .box file can be downloaded to see how it is made up from partial templates. Here is a copy of the download link: http://templot.com/samples/p4_gwr_mixed_gauge.box If you are asking for an automated function to create mixed-gauge pointwork, that would be a massive programming task, there are so many variables. The starting point in Templot is always the prototype, usually where there is mixed standard-gauge and narrow-gauge. I don't know how that would work for say mixed Gauge 0/ Gauge 1 -- what would be the model scale? What would the ...

Sketchboard seems to have a problem with partial templates. I discovered this whilst playing around producing a complex scissors crossing and double slips.... To be sure it wasn't just me, I went back to a box file uploaded by Raymond Walley for a scissors crossover (double junction 6) and hit the sketchboard button. The attached .sk9 file is the result. Almost all the templates are partial ones and sketchboard obviously can't "see" them. Is this a flaw or am I doing something wrong? Like anything that just works you never hear about it- you only hear when things go wrong! I've used them loads of times. My recent screenshot of a short angle diamond was actually irregular, and a slightly less recent screenshot of Yatton was absolutely stuffed with them- I wouldn't even have bothered drawing that up if I had to use partial templates. The resounding silence is a sign that you've got it spot-on first time. The same goes for several of the other new features -- platforms, gaunt turnouts, wrapping a picture shape along the control template, foot lines on FB templates, the dummy vehicle tool. I'll admit to not really using any of the above. There was nowhere near the clamour that irregular diamonds had for any of them, as far as I could tell. To my mind, a lot of these are not part ...

The formation is made up of exit roads from platforms 5& 6, plus exit roads from the old Fish Siddings( I posted a JPEG photograph of this area a few weeks ago, however, do NOT use the photo as background as it is quite distorted due to whatever reason). After several aborted attempts, mainly due to my lack of knowledge and understanding of Templot, and also trying to overlay templates on the partial plan area in some sort of sequence, I eventually came to the conclusion that a new tack was required. I then decided to overlay simple plain track templates on to the plan, putting them as close as possible to the plan roads. Doing this gave me three distinct advantages; 1. Was that I had better defined and finer track lines to follow when placing and manipulating the required templates. 2. I could remove the distraction of the cluttered plan from the background, and in doing so help to speed up ...

... May 2011 22:09 from: Paul Boyd Hi Martin I have to say I like what I've seen so far- thanks for letting us have a look at this. The irregular diamond feature just works! Firstly, I tried option 3 above and it was pretty obvious if the wrong intersection point was chosen, so that was easy enough to understand. The end result was an irregular diamond at the intersection of two lengths of curved track. Then I loaded a copy of a "live" trackplan and removed all the partial templates of an existing irregular diamond where one of the through roads was on the transition area of a S-curve so option 1 wouldn't work. Once the Ctrl-0 point was established, I quickly realised that the best way to proceed (I think!) was to zoom right in to the K crossing and use F10 to adjust that so it lined up with the underlying plain track templates, then pan over to the V crossing and use F9 to adjust that in the same way. The process was really ...

And times change -- now that we have the make slip and make tandem functions (and hopefully make outside slip in future and possibly others), the need to work with overlaid partial templates is much reduced. Possibly eliminated for many users. I'm wondering therefore, whether to have "make-on-click mode" as the default? This doesn't prevent anyone switching back to the classic mode if they prefer, and the setting is included in the saved program preferences. Would that make life easier for beginners? And possibly reduce the incidence of duplicate templates which seem to bedevil some users. It would need a bit of tweaking. The store toolbutton needs to be removed in "make-on- ...

Formations comprised of multiple partial templates, such as a 3-way tandem turnout, do not show on the sketchboard in diagram mode. They do show in detail mode.
