Dave migrated from P4 to S7. He found that he wasn't getting the quality of running he wanted with phosphor bronze wipers and DCC. After some tests proved to him that the weak point was the wipers he looked at the alternatives and with advice from other S7 modellers went to Slater's Plasticard plunger pick-ups. These worked well for a while but in a short amount of time the wheels developed a groove on the back where the plunger was contacting. This had an audible sound as well. After two years the sound stopped but that was because the groove had widened out so far and the plunger had started acting as a brake. One for each driving wheel. After some thought Dave came up with a solution that involved modifying the Slater's pick-up with a silver carbon bush from Bachman's N scale motors ...

A Lock Bar as shown in the drawing I posted ex S&F cat works in conjunction with the Facing Point Lock, bolt or plunger name depends on local terminology. It's purpose being to prevent the signalman withdrawing the lock and attempting to move the points with a train passing over them. The lockbar and bolt are worked by the same lever (Blue). A fouling bar and as the name suggests is laid down within the Fouling Point of converging lines and is again lever worked. The signalman being able to work the lever proves any engine or vehicles are clear of the "Fouling Point" and would not conflict/collide with traffic on an adjacent ...

Edited to add: the presence of signal 16 indicates that the platform accessed over 48 Points is used for arrivals, so that would account for the bolting of these and 51 points for the movement into the platform, but not the bolting of the Middle Road switch tongue. Further edited to enquire: How on earth do you bolt a switch tongue that is operated independently of its opposite number? Normally the lock plunger is inserted into the stretcher between a switch pair, and clearly that cannot here be the case. Furthermore, if one of the tongues at the exit from the Middle Road needs to be bolted, then why not the other?
