... topic: 3069 Companion changes posted: 1 Sep 2017 13:26 from: Martin Wynne Dear all, In preparing the next program update for release, it has dawned on me that I have made a big rod for my own back with the multiple formats for the Templot Companion. At present we have: 1. An online version in the responsive web format. This was intended to be better suited to mobile devices, but I can't say I found it easy to use on them, especially the clunky format for the A-Z Index. 2. An embedded version in Templot itself in EWriter format, with content updated from the server every time Templot starts up. When it works I like it, and it provides additional interactive program functions not possible on the web version. But there are problems with the zoom settings and window size on different monitors. It can be very frustrating to get it just right for system you are using. 3. A simplified basic interactive viewer in the program which can't be updated between program versions, ...

... topic: 780 The next steps once I have the laser cut timber sleepers posted: 6 Apr 2009 12:07 from: Paul Hamilton Well the track plan is all but done and dusted now thanks to Raymond Walley. The quotes for the laser cut timber sleepers are imminent. I have successfully managed to download the 0.91c PUG tonight and installed it in my virtual windows environment Parallels on my Mac. I was then able to properly view the completed track plan and print it to a pdf file at A3 size. This has led me to some additional questions that hopefully the learned folk of this forum can assist with. 1) I noticed that in templot it appears that A3 is the largest paper size you can print to. Is this a function of the particular pdf writer I have or the program itself? I am imagining it is a function of the pdf for free writer I had downloaded into my virtul windows environment. Any suggestions on where I can get A2 print sizing would be much appreciated. (Saves all the sticky tape you ...

... topic: 1199 Difficulty getting started posted: 11 Aug 2010 20:32 from: roythebus Well, I suppose it's me either being too old to learn, or having a blonde year, but having spent ages trying to master Templot, I can't even get the crossover I've just drawn to print. I was hoping to be able to rebuild my current layout more prototypically using Templot, but personally I find it extremely complicated to use. I've looked at the videos and it all seems too easy, but reality is different to what is shown on some of the videos. for instance, I make a simple curved crossover on double track. I then try to modify one of the turnouts to get an easier radius, but then another turnout appears at random on the overall plan. I then find I can't print the original crossover, despite going into the template store; there's no print box shown. Has anyone yet written an idiots guide to Templot yet, or is there anyone out there who fancies doing a rather large layout plan? I ...

Hi Tim, There are several ways of proceeding. Generally you need to shove some of the timbers, and/or roll in a shorter length of rail. For best results that usually means rolling in a full rail and then rolling a bit of it back out. I notice that you are using 45ft rails with 12" joint sleepers. So I'm guessing you are modelling pre-grouping practice? In which case you may prefer to swap the timbering style to ...

... topic: 3324 OpenTemplot- where next? posted: 4 Sep 2018 07:04 from: Martin Wynne It is now 3 months since I released Templot as open source. I spent a lot of time preparing the code to make it suitable for publication, and capable of being compiled in a readily available compiler. Then when there was some disagreement about the actual form of publication I spent more time splitting it into two options -- a conventional collaborative open source project (OpenTemplot), and a "home" version for users to tinker with for their own use (TemplotMEC). For a long time I had been reluctant to publish the code for Templot, fearing that it would create a flood of questions about the workings of the code, and requests for help in modifying and compiling it. Which on top of the usual help requests from users would be just too much to cope with. In the event I was completely wrong, and the actual result has been almost total silence. I have spent a couple of days trying to get this very old forum software and database copied over to the new server, and as expected it is a minefield of error messages. I'm reasonably confident that I could in theory work through them all and get it working -- eventually. But in practice it is going to be a constant pain to keep it going, and after some thought I have decided that I don't want to. It will be a shame to see it go, it has served us well for over 13 years. But it is time to move on, and change to something more modern which will be easier to maintain and keep up-to-date. ... topic: 1486 irregular diamond-crossings posted: 17 May 2011 02:06 from: Martin Wynne This topic is about creating irregular diamond-crossings in TDV. Irregular diamond-crossings are those where the radii in the two roads differ in size or direction. This causes the K-crossing and V-crossing angles also to differ.
