I would have thought both would have been made from a continuous piece of nickel silver track with cosmetic fishplates Am I correct here, or should the switch be physically cut at the heel?( ie between the tongue and the lead) secondly, reading the scalefour notes on loose heeled switches, there can be an issue with the stock rail to switch clearance with the switch is open, this would be exacerbated in oo-sf, is this the case, would it be better to stick with fixed heel? any hints on how to make the Joggle, I havent worked out reliable way to do this( 0.2mm joggle) ...

As such I am more than prepared to pay someone to create the Templot plan for me such that I can then order the timber track bases from Brian at C&L. I am not going to be as vulgar as to propose rates and even the scope here suffice to say that there are 8 points, no slips or other such silliness and it is in SF00 (surprise hey!) I am just about to embark on a mammoth timbering task, have placed most of my track-work in position using un-timbered rails only. Having just started this task, I find that in many areas there is considerable overlapping of timbers, which clearly need be adjusted by either twisting or backward – forward movements to clear each other, but I am not quite sure how much movement (max twist or backward – forward) the critical timbers such as, A, B, C, D, X, Y& Z can be adjusted (moved). Can anyone give me some guidance on the maximum movement of these timbers, and does anyone know if there is anything written down about this particular subject? I do know in general, T& S timbers can be shoved backwards, forwards and twisted to some considerable degree, although timbers S1& S2 should ...

... topic: 359 Making Common Crossings- how should the tip appear? posted: 10 Mar 2008 17:21 from: Brian Tulley Hi all, I spent yesterday trying my hand at forming a common crossing (Code 75 B/H rail) using the EMGS/Portsdown Models Common Crossing Filing& Assembly Jig. However, whilst I have no concerns regarding filing the mating faces of the Splice Rail and Point Rail, I am a little confused regarding the filing of the outer faces of the tip of the common crossing. In the instructions it says "File the Rail flush with the jig...."; however there is no mention of how far the rail should be protruding from the jig before filing commences. This filing removes both head and foot of the rail from both the Splice and Point Rails at the tip- is this correct? I am wondering if I should perhaps leave any filing operations on the tip of the crossing until after soldering? How should I file the tip i.e. what appearance? Any links to ...

I don't have this program but I do have a pdf of it. As such, I was wondering on the best approach to take this plan and create my layout in Templot. I am assuming that Templot will give me the advantage of fitting turnouts to curves etc that XtrkCAD couldn't do because it was using Peco Stremaline templates to create the track in the first place. Should I import the plan in as a back ground image (I see plenty of help on this particular topic around the forum so I am not asking for assistance on this aspect- yet!) and then overlay templot EM track work to suit the general "feel" of the plan or is there a better way? ... topic: 3499 output elements- new settings and print preview posted: 10 Sep 2019 20:51 from: Paul Boyd Hi Martin, I seem to be finding my way back to Templot again! There's a couple of features that would be quite nice to have, if they're not already there somewhere:- When printing the background templates, any platforms with a solid infill obliterate any text, such as timber numbering or "blunt nose" etc. Could it be arranged so that the platform is always underneath any text? Hatching partially solves this, but even so, the text then becomes chopped up. The other one, which I'm sure is an option somewhere, is to not show the template number on the output, so just "A11" instead of "PL172.A11". ... topic: 3214 Changes in 218d posted: 9 Feb 2018 17:58 from: Martin Wynne Here's a list of the changes in 218d: 1. I have made some changes to improve screen performance when zooming in and panning on a large track plan. See: topic 3207 How much difference it makes will vary with different systems and screen sizes. You may see no difference, or a big difference. On smaller track plans you probably won't see much difference. 2. There is a new option to restrict the number of background templates being shown on the screen when zooming out. Again this may or may not make a significant difference to the screen response. See the above topic link for more details. 3. I have re-written the code for the make return curve function. I was never entirely happy with its working, and it was often annoying that it wouldn't work on transition curves. It does now. At the same time I have adopted a non-standard way of working for that function. Instead of putting ...

One interesting point that I stumbled across while flicking through it is on the sheet covering turnout construction using C&L components (23.6.4). It says that you "do not want a track gauge that has a firm grip on the running head and holds the rail upright" since as soon as you remove the gauge the chairs will tilt the rail inwards (as they are supposed to) therefore making the track under-gauge. I've never seen this mentioned anywhere before. Can anyone expand on this? Do the gauges produced by the Scalefour Society have this problem with track constructed using C&L chairs and if so how do people get around it?
