... topic: 1701 ADMIN: Templot changes posted: 27 Nov 2011 18:41 from: Martin Wynne Dear all, The price of a Templot licence has remained unchanged for over 10 years. That means it is now much cheaper in real terms than it was, despite the many new features introduced over that time. I've allowed this situation to develop because I'm very aware of the deficiencies in Templot as a proper software product -- especially with regard to the confusing mess the user documentation is in. New users have been starting with the 10-year-old version 074b, despite the availability of much improved later versions, simply because 074b is the only version with a reasonably full set of user docs. But I've reached the end of my tether in trying to explain this over and over again in emails to users, despite the fact that it is fully explained in my order confirmation letter. If we carry on as we are I shall be ill. There is simply no way in the short term that I can find the time to ...

Hi Dave, I'm not too clear what you mean by "back" to 16.5mm? The track gauge for 00-SF is 16.2mm. I'm not convinced that the majority of users would connect it to 16.5mm track, and even then only for a few of the templates. A lot of users will be constructing 16.2mm plain track, if not for the entire layout then ...

There appear to be articles in two issues of MRJ (119 and 162) that explain how they are used as well as providing designs for jigs for folding them. I'm beginning to despair that it ever will. I've written about this problem several times before, but I'm no nearer a solution. In recent months I have been able to spend almost no time at all on program development. All my Templot time has been spent on user support, not only on here but also on RMweb and elsewhere, and in emails. ... topic: 3578 3D again? posted: 14 Dec 2019 23:31 from: Martin Wynne A rainy day, so I spent an hour or two staring out of the window and pondering. On the West Midlands Metro in Birmingham, trams have just this month started running on the extension from New Street to the Town Hall. For that section they run on battery power, to avoid the need for overhead wires between civic buildings and important architectural heritage: Trams are likewise running on battery power in many other places around the world. Now if a full-size tram can run on LiPo battery power, not to mention electric cars, and even milk floats (remember them) -- for a model train it ought to be dead easy, surely? Which means in turn that quite soon model trains will no longer need metal rails. ... topic: 3051 Direct loading of background maps posted: 23 Jul 2017 03:21 from: Martin Wynne Edit: please read all through this topic for up-to-date information. It describes the development process of this function, and the first messages do not necessarily represent the finished program. Well that was fun. How much actual use can be made of it remains to be seen. Lots of folks like to use maps as a background guide to their track planning. But it's not always straightforward to capture and merge multiple screenshots from the mapping web sites, and scale them accurately to match the model scale. So I thought it would be useful if Templot could load maps directly from the server. That way the map can be as large as you like, within reason, and Templot can do the scaling to your model scale automatically. The big fly in that ointment is the copyright and licensing restrictions on most mapping and aerial imagery web sites. But that doesn't apply to OpenStreetMap (OSM), so I have had a ...

Probably my fault, but I'm unable to find the control to switch it off. When I reload my track plan to do more work, selecting a section of track to the control (click M in drop down left menu) it changes colour to brown and goes to the control but places an identical blue ghost image below the controlled image which I then have to delete. Every time I select track to the control another blue ghost appears below, sometimes having to delete many background ghost images prior to being left with the one I'm working on. Probably not explained that very well but an example would be- if I create a new template of any piece of track it appears on the trackpad in brown and is 'in the control', I click 'shift' and move it but there is always another 'blue ghost' left ...

It has taken me much longer than I expected but it is now ready. This is my first serious attempt at using the new FBR format, so please treat this as a first draft version. I would welcome comments and feedback. The idea of the new format is to combine a written tutorial with video in the same file, so that I don't have to do everything twice. I'm not entirely sure the idea has worked. Perhaps it should have been split into 2 or 3 shorter videos? How do you find the font size?
