I can't see an obvious way to see what's in a .box file without loading it. For new .box files we could perhaps include a screenshot of the trackpad, or a list of the storage box contents, or both, in the .box file for use by a "preview" function. And of course you can always set a meaningful file name, or put them in meaningful ...

... topic: 3307 progress report- chairs in the output posted: 16 Jul 2018 20:34 from: Martin Wynne As I mentioned, the reports of folks using 3D printing to create bullhead chairs has spurred me to move chairing in Templot from the NOD* list to the to-do list. I started some experimental work a couple of years ago, and I have now returned to it. It seemed that if the output was to be of any use in 3D printing, the chair outlines would need to have the proper corner radii. It's a lot of extra calculation with 4 chairs on most crossing timbers, but it hasn't impacted too much on the screen response for full track plans. Obviously you would switch the chairs on only for the final printed templates, they are not needed while track planning. It's fiendishly complex. For example the REA bridge chairs (L1) have a larger corner radius (1.3/4 ") than ordinary S1 chairs (which have 1" corner radius): 2_161458_330000001.png And GWR slide chairs have a ...

... topic: 3667 Exporting a track plan to create a mimic panel posted: 13 May 2020 09:59 from: Gordon S Hi Martin/Fellow Templotters I've decided to build a mimic panel for Eastwood Town as I'm struggling to mentally convert the schematic diagram within my ECoS controller to the totally curved shape of my own layout. I now have the required amount of LED's and controllers from DCC Concepts, so thought I'd make a start on creating the track plan. My first thought was to use Sketchboard, but once I started to enlarge the panel, the track edges became jagged. The final mimic panel is going to be something like 800mm long by 400mm deep. I can't say the exact size as it's going to be governed by the need to place LED's within the track lines. The bezels of the LED's are 7mm diameter. In total there will be at least 72 LED's on the panel showing the turnout detection of 36 turnouts. What is the best way of accomplishing this? Ideally I would like to add six platform faces and text ...

... topic: 228 Challenging terminus design posted: 9 Nov 2007 00:31 from: Gordon S Hi, I'm new to Templot and have been discussing with Martin a fairly large terminus plan which is an adaptation of a CJ Freezer terminus plan published nearly 20 years ago. I've reached the grand old age of 59 and will be retiring from my job at the end of this year so will have plenty of time on my hands. I have been a modeller for most of my life and now that my kids have all left home, I'm lucky enough to have a space available of 18' square. The room is the converted loft space above a double garage and has been fully fitted out with a proper staircase, heating and lighting to eventually house a multi layer 00 layout. The lower level is under construction now and will have 12 through storage roads, each about 30' long. The lower level will be about 18" below the scenic level which will allow full access to the storage roads for track cleaning and point repair etc. ...

I've uploaded some images of my progress on the trackwork for Yeovil Pen Mill so far. Progress has been pretty slow of late as I'm building the shed where the layout is going to live as well at the moment and this from scratch, so until that is finished further track making will be limited. The photos are all of the MPD between the junction. I'm going to try to lay it and ballast at the same time which the more I think about it the more nerve racking it is. OK, I give in. I have never understood the importance of saving user preferences. I seldom use the same ones twice, and compared with an hour on Templot and hundreds or even thousands of mouse clicks in a session, half a dozen clicks at the start to change a few settings seem insignificant. Especially compared with the great advantage of starting from a known repeatable condition every time -- which also makes it much easier for me to provide user support. But I've been asked for saved preferences so often that I give in. In the next pug I will include the option to save some of your settings. Hi Stewart, Excellent. Many thanks for taking the trouble to do that. But please note that Templot has a function to put the timber ends in line, you don't need to do it manually: ends_in_line.png Normally centralized timbering is used when timbers are skewed (equalized timbering), and timber ends are in line when timbers are square (square-on timbering). Currently I am working on two options, a) a straight plot of the 1:2500 OS map, which as you can imagine gives a rather long layout (20'+ to get the interesting bit in, and b) a curved version (inspired by the late Chris Matthewman's "Striving") that would in theory fit in my 18' x 12' living room (occasionally) In a nut shell, does any one have any comments on the "model of a railway" versus the "model railway" approach Also some of the turnouts look very long- does anyone know what sort of geometry the LBSC would have used to lay out the track in the 1880s? ... topic: 2734 3D Printed Track and Turnouts posted: 9 Aug 2015 05:18 from: Andrew Barrowman Greetings fellow Templotters, As some of you already know, I've been messing about trying to print turnout bases on a 3D printer. It's fairly easy to create a 3D model of the timbers in CAD from any Templot template. It's also fairly simple to drag models of the chairs into the correct positions and orientation and combine them to produce an STL file to drive a printer. What is not so easy is producing 3D models for chairs that a) actually work, and b) don't look too horrible! I think I have reached a point where I'm limited by the printing technology itself. The results are actually a lot better than I thought they might be when I started out. Anyway, I've been making some wild guesses about chair dimensions, and I have not had a lot of luck finding anything on the Web. Any information would be greatly appreciated. You can see clearly the dogleg at the double junction top centre left of the plan and I am wondering if there's a recognised way of dealing with this varying type of curve in Templot 2. The track is just 2 templates so far, and I've used a transition curves in both to get to this stage. I've been wondering if I need to split up the main lines into smaller sections to have greater control as the radii changes, or will that just produce more doglegs at every join? So a good moment perhaps to reflect on where we have got to. The main prompt for the original decision was the need to get the irregular diamonds into your hands as quickly as possible, because you had been asking and pleading for them for years. I didn't think I could make anyone wait any longer, even if the development version was in a half-finished mess. The strange thing is, that after all the clamour for them, they now hardly get a mention on here. So either the demand wasn't really there, or I got them just right first time -- which is difficult to believe. The same goes for several of the other new features -- platforms, gaunt turnouts, wrapping a picture shape along ...
