... that. As I've mentioned before, Templot is a very old program. A large chunk of the code was written in 1980 -- that's nearly 40 years ago. The compiler which I use is also a very old program. How long it will all go on working on Windows is a worry. Assuming Windows still exists in its present form, even. Surprisingly, at present it is working better on Windows10 than it has ever done before. I have no plans to shuffle off stage just yet, but if the proverbial bus runs me over tomorrow, I have arranged that Templot in its present form and this web site would continue to be available for at least 5 years -- assuming someone keeps clicking the donations button of course. But there is no-one else to continue developing it or to answer questions about it. I have been wondering what to do about that. The task of explaining all the code to someone else is just too awful to contemplate -- it would put updating the Templot Companion completely in the shade. ...

... a personal barb and expressing a preference against them. Not knowing the context of the remark, I took it at face value, I.e. Something which seems to be a personal and derogatory slight. It may have been a humorous remark, but I could not see any sign of humour in it. As for keeping track of what you did when, may I suggest pen and paper, with a few notes, or a simple document if you prefer it electronically, recording the changes you made? A pain in the proverbials until you get used toot, but version control of documents is commonplace nowadays. Apologies if I misread you. It's a real pain in the proverbial to try to run these on a Mac, even with Crossover. I appreciate that there is no intention to make a Mac version of Templot itself, but why oh why does it have to be so difficult to access the training materials? I really, really like Templot and- as a software developer myself- appreciate very much the efforts of Martin to create and maintain this (let alone provide support), but why does it have to be so difficult to access the tutorial videos? ... which you'll see in the photos below. I say partly because I'd already stuck down the sleepers with double sided tape again intending to do the same as I had before. This time however I did not remove the template at the end of the track building, I just lifted it off its temporary construction board and stuck it in place with some "3M stuff" (does anyone know of an alternative glue that sticks well but allows adjustment before it goes off?) that did not swell the paper and sticks like the proverbial. This time I've stuck it directly to the baseboard (another departure from before when I used 3mm cork) which is 12mm MDF sealed with a coat of paint to prevent/ reduce swelling and shrinkage which in turn is mounted on four 90mm high supports which in turn sit on the layout sub base(18mm ply). Why did I go for such a complicated set up? My need/ requirement here is to have the layout broken up into sections 3' to 4' long so that I can build each ...

... Regarding the work you've done to split it into two versions, I do feel you were bullied into that to some extent, but obviously you could have said "no"! To be honest, in your shoes I wouldn't spend any further time on it, having released it so it's available if necessary. You may like to do the occasional big update now and then though! I would hate you to think you've wasted your time though- as a way of being able to continue using Templot in the event of the proverbial bus changing its timetable, or nuclear Armageddon wiping out the servers, it would be reassuring to know that we can still access all our work! Cheers, Paul posted: 5 Sep 2018 01:24 from: Martin Wynne Hi Rob, Trevor, Paul, Thanks for your thoughts. I did say at the start that I would open-source Templot and then leave it to others, while I get on with Templot2 in my own way. So in theory I have no reason to be frustrated by any lack ...

... topic: 1695 Extra Multiple B4 Timbers showing. posted: 24 Nov 2011 17:28 from: Brian Nicholls Hi Martin, Sorry to be a pain in the proverbial, but thought I should report this. First let me say, I have noticed this event several times over the last few days, it seems since the last TDV 4505 update. In these instances I just simply kept omitting the timber until all copies of it had gone. In this last instance, just a few minutes ago, I had aligned a turnout template and then did a make branch track, and when the track appeared it had these extra B4 timbers at the peg end (previous events always had the extra B4 timbers at the peg end). (see image file below, this can be seen at full size on the image gallery). Now I say extra timbers because, there are 3 or 4 of these B4 timbers sitting on top of each other, all exhibiting the same timber number, and it takes three or four timber omit ions to ...

I think the real trick is to start with the proverbial blank sheet of paper- draw the space you have and sketch what you want on a sheet of paper. Get the outline of your space into Templot- either using the background drawing options or by importing a scale drawing from a scan or drawing program. Use Templot to create your layout- don't worry about the exact radius of curves- just keep an eye on the minimum so that you do not have problems with rolling stock on tight curves. It's easy to vary the parameters when creating turnouts- so experiment with ...

The Firefox down load was version 28.0, and I checked to see if suitable for Win 7. The only comment on the Mozella site was, that although Firefox would run on Win 7 32& 64 bit OS's, only the 32 bit version was supported. The program appears to have installed OK. Now as to my problem, I can browse the Templot club site as normal, without logging in, but as expected, I cannot post a message. When I try to log in on the site, I fill in the usual login box with the correct details, i.e. my user name and password. The best thing of all is that 3D printing lets a modeller use any old scale/gauge/standard they care to choose (just like Templot). A cynic might suggest that some are looking for an excuse rather than a solution Anyway, if you don't mind plodding on, so will I, just as long as we realize that we might be shoving the proverbial boiled egg up a gum tree, while maintaining a sense of humor (always a good thing I think). On the one hand, the ability to defeat the internet check was one reason, probably the main reason, for my interest in the open versions of Templot in the event of the proverbial bus. On the other hand, it's incredibly sad that someone demonstrating Templot isn't at the very least aware, apparently, of the incredible potential of Templot to its fullest. As he's gone through the internet check he must be using the latest version. Yes, people will still do things their own way, but the features must at least be shown by any demonstrator. The failure isn't of your making at all. You've built in a mechanism to ensure that everyone is using the newest version, you've posted articles here ...
