... topic: 2872 New to Templot- am I on the right lines? posted: 27 Apr 2016 21:06 from: RK Hello, I've put a couple of small O gauge layouts together in recent years, one using Peco track and points, the other using Peco track and Marcway ready-to-use point work. I'm now about to start on my big long term layout and have decided to take the plunge and have a go at hand-building all the scenic trackwork. Now this is something I've never done before, so I'm hoping somebody may be able to help and give me some guidance. I've used Templot to draw out the track plan and make sure everything works, I'm lucky in having a large area to use, fortunately. But before I start spending time on the detailed aspects and actual building, would anyone be prepared to look over the Templot file for me and check for any major mistakes I may have missed? Its things like: will signals fit between adjacent tracks, and whether coaches may catch on ...

If you're into modelling LNER (or early BR, I think), then you might want to look at the Exactoscale turnout kits. I'm certainly no expert on prototype track but from what I can gather from the various sources I've been scouring recently the check and bridge chairs should also really be 2-bolt for GWR track. I'm assuming that you just accept the fact that some of the chairs will be slightly incorrect, or do you 'doctor' them in any way to replicate the correct bolt detail? I load the "restore previous work" and the track plan pops up, but not the background shape. I've looked in all the background shape places but it doesn't seem to be there. My memory for remembering these things really is bad! In the meantime I'll have another look. If I was relying on this web site to earn a living, having Norton incorrectly announce to the world that it is unsafe could put me out of business. A user seeing that message could easily broadcast it across social media, after which there is no way on earth to get it removed. Only recently, a different anti-virus program announced that the Templot program contains a "threat". In each case, it was only because the user contacted them that it was corrected. So thanks for doing that -- but most users wouldn't bother, and those messages would still be on there. Fortunately I'm not relying on Templot for anything. ... topic: 1600 The hollow triangle symbol posted: 24 Aug 2011 20:38 from: Simon Dunkley Just a thought, and posted here following an email exchange with Martin, but since the backspace key can be used to access recent commands, in many instances it would be useful to use the empty triangle symbol to toggle between related commands, so that if F9 is selected for a half diamond, then clicking on the triangle will toggle to the F10 functionality, and vice-versa. If you have a transition curve, then clicking on the triangle when adjusting the radius (F6) toggles between the first and second radii, so you can see what I mean if it is not clear. In a similar vein, I would find it useful to be able to toggle between setting the start point of a transition curve, and setting the length of the transition. Martin thinks the basic idea has merit, so I wondered if it might be useful to open up the topic for further suggestions of paired (or triplicated, maybe?) ...
