A black and orange thing appeared recently at the top of each forum page called a "handy hint". It looks like a plan view of a piece of flatbottom rail that has been partially filed away (part of the head and web missing). I cannot figure out why I would want a square end on a blade. Dear all, Since Paul wrote that recently, I've given matters a lot of thought. I'm really very embarrassed that I've been promising irregular diamonds for several years now, and yet they are still not currently available in Templot. They will be in the next Pug, but at present I can't make any promises about when that will be available -- there is still a lot of unfinished stuff to complete and many gaps to fill. Not least the writing of masses of help notes, especially for the sketchboard. After years of saying I would do no such thing, I have decided to make my unfinished development versions of Templot available. ... topic: 1369 Anti-Virus scans flag forums as unread posted: 11 Feb 2011 23:04 from: Glen Suckling This is not really a Templot problem but I did not know where else to post it. I recently installed an upgrade to Norton 360 (which includes Norton Anti-Virus). It is set to run a full scan once a week. Since the upgrade, every time that Norton runs a scan it does something to the Templot Club that resets all of the forums and topics to unread. It also flags any posts less than 30(?) days old as unread. It never did this before the upgrade. I can get rid of the forum flags by pushing the "Mark forum as read" button in each forum but I have to click on each post in each topic to get rid of those flags. Does anybody know how to stop Norton from doing this? Glen P.S. I am having the same problem with the TV Guide. After Norton runs a scan TV Guide reverts to a generic national ...

I have twice recently been wanting to show off your wonderful program to others via my laptop but on both of those occasions I had shut down Templot the previous time I had used it. As I was in a webless location I was unable to do so. I use DesignSpark for PCB design and that requires web access at startup but if there is no web it will allow starts for up to 30 days from the last web access. Is it possible that something similar could be included in Templot either limited to a number of days or number of restarts? Thanks and thanks for allowing us access to this wonderful program. ... topic: 1339 Flat Bottom Points In A Yard posted: 17 Jan 2011 12:48 from: BeamEnds Hi All, due to the change of plan the sidings at Soddingham are going to have mostly flat bottom rail( 'coz I've already got some!). The question is: would points in the yard have plained or bent check rails/vee ends? (It's safe to assume that these have been re-laid pretty recently). This photo shows bent ones on a main line Bent Check Rails, but then it is generally assumed that all flat bottom points have plained ones. Clearly the assumption is no wholly correct, does anyone have a photo of a set of points in an early 80's yard with bent ends? I just want to be able to say to any nit-pickers that bent ends are, or aren't, ok. The reason I ask is that plained ends don't somehow look right in sidings. The second question is: can Templot change an existing template from bullhead to flat bottom? And finally, ...

Hi Godders, Click the hollow triangle symbol on the mouse action panel to toggle between F7 and F8: 2_080940_240000000.png That isn't a new feature, it has always been there. Similarly for several other mouse actions, clicking that symbol toggles two related mouse actions, e.g. in F6, toggle between 1st and 2nd transition radius, for a transition, toggle between the start and zone length adjustments. When not doing such pre-defined swaps, it toggles back to the most recent previous mouse action. So for example when adjusting check rails you could toggle to and fro between the length of the check rail and the length of the flared end. The BACKSPACE key does the same thing. I removed the separate F8 button so that I could find space to include an indication of join snapping in the caption on the F7 button. The toolbar can't be made any longer or it won't fit on 1024 screens. Be aware that F7 snapping is now on by default if you use that button, but ...

... topic: 2208 Template name labels posted: 1 May 2013 12:03 from: Martin Wynne The code for the template name labels has remained unchanged for years. By now there must be thousands of templates all called "no-name" -- which on the face of it doesn't make a lot of sense. I've felt for a long time that this area needed changing, without knowing quite what to do about it. Following this recent discussion by Richard and Arthur: topic 370- message 14648 I have been giving it some more thought. I've made some changes for the next program update, although I'm still not entirely sure it is an improvement. Maybe it is just change for change's sake. At present the template number simply represents its position in the storage box list, so the number changes as templates are inserted, deleted, etc., or the list is re-ordered on the storage box. This can be confusing when printing templates at different times because the template numbers (the prefix on the timber numbers) may ...

... you may end up with both tongues in the open position or both in the closed position (depending on which tongue has become disconnected). Detection then provides false 'proof' that the points have assumed the correct position, but a derailment on the switch has become almost inevitable. Hi John, In the early days there was little thought about disconnected or broken stretcher rods. On the face of it, that should be a very unlikely occurrence given the amount of staff then available for track maintenance. Nowadays we know different after recent major incidents: http://assets.digital.cabinet-office.gov.uk/media/547c9037ed915d4c0d000199/R202008_081023_Grayrigg_v5.pdf The important thing then was to detect that the relevant switch blade was properly closed against the stock rail, before the signal can clear. That's something beyond mechanical failure, and much more likely to go wrong, such as weather conditions or fallen debris affecting the rodding run or clogging the switch blade. regards, Martin. posted: 21 Oct 2017 12:07 from: Tim Lee Here is another image which again shows the 180 degree ...

... topic: 2831 Bug warning- make transition posted: 23 Jan 2016 02:21 from: Martin Wynne There is a bug in the changes which I made recently in the make transition function. In the event that an existing transition curve is zero-length, selecting the 2nd radius option fails -- the 1st radius is always used. Sorry about that, I will get it fixed. In the meantime, the workaround is to put the peg at the 2nd radius end, and select the at peg option. Zero-length transition curves are not often used, so this won't affect many. After a couple of months of effort in my "garden shed hobby business" these fellows told me they had moved on from Tassie 4mm to Victorian 3.5mm.
