... Most of my photography has tended to be at model railway shows I've found, most ending up on Flickr. We all need something to distract ourselves from the pressure of life. For me it tends to be one of, reading science fiction or playing video games. But I also make jewellery as a therapeutic hobby, usually gifts for friends and family. Much cheaper than buying items for people and more personal. it helps distract me from the realities of life (mainly constant pain and fatigue). Having said that, recently my other half has gotten a rescue dig who has brightened our lives. A mixture of things really. The layout was extended once with the addition of an off scene industrial siding, which required the replacement of a turnout with an outside slip, but mostly it was down to errors and amendments made over the course of time. The most recent change (from issue 8 to 9) was replacing the pencil drawn original with the computer graphic I posted, but I took the opportunity to update one of the point motor numbers from M2 to M2a for clarity. This change had been noted in red ink on the earlier working copy some years ago, so no, I don't exactly rush to do the updates, just make a note of them at the time. Of at least equal concern ought to be a desire to keep the existing user base happy. Too many changes in a relatively short space of time, or efforts to 'dumb down' the software can be frustrating for existing users already familiar with Templot's functionality- particularly those like me who only need to use Templot on an occasional basis once their dream layout has been designed. Despite this, a few of the recent changes are indeed wonderful and beneficial to all, like the new slip function for example. Templot is a superb program. That caused no great problem in the UK, but in the USA and elsewhere there is a mind-set that all crossings are dead straight -- which caused confusion with the simple case where a regular crossing is inserted in a curved main. In all the development of Templot, the biggest single headache has always been the choice of words. I tried countless different options for "the control template" before finally settling on that form. Until very recently it was the "current" template -- which invited confusion with the currently selected stored template, and failed to make clear its unique nature representing the generator output. Another constant bone of contention has been "point", which in the UK is used erroneously by a great many modellers to mean a turnout, but in the rest of the world is correctly used to describe a switch blade, or just the tip of it.
