... a fairly complex shunting and services level. I should have made it more clear that I wasn't talking about stripping Peco points, I was referring to the 2 x 3 foot lengths of nickel silver rail in each piece of Peco Flextrack of which I have quite a few boxes. Hi Ken, Certainly you can use Templot to design your turnouts. You can also get your XTrkCad plan into Templot as a guide in the background shapes. See this page for an example of that: http://www.templot.com/dummy/rene_tandem.htm You can of course use the rails from flexi-track to build pointwork, but it is an expensive way of buying rail. There are other sources of suitable rail. Unfortunately the archive site on RMweb is currently offline, but should be back soon. However, quite a lot of it is available in Google's cache. Here for example is a topic about handbuilding N Gauge track, including some details of rail supplies: (Copy and paste this link into your browser): http://209.85.229.132/search ...

... 2. Are there any simple procedures for producing tandem turnouts? I am having difficulty drawing the common crossing for the two 'branch' roads. There is also a video showing the basics of how to create a 3-way tandem in the above list. 3. If not, are any preformed templates available for downloading? Yes, several tandem .box files have been uploaded over the years. There is one in EM at: topic 29 and one in H0 on this page: http://www.templot.com/dummy/rene_tandem.htm If you search for tandem in the forum and the Yahoo group archive you will find many messages about creating tandem turnouts. Sorry there isn't a single unified tutorial for tandems -- it's deferred until we get gaunt turnouts and negative turnout radius in a future pug (which will make it easier). regards, Martin. posted: 20 Nov 2007 09:21 from: Martin Wynne Dear all, I have just noticed a request for information about version 091b on Templot Chat, so I thought I would bump this topic ...

... straight, and single-sided (both same hand) or double-sided (opposite hands) from the main road. Single-sided tandems tend to be quite long. All 3-way turnouts always require one extra V-crossing. It's much easier to answer your question in greater detail if we can see it. regards, Martin. posted: 13 Aug 2007 14:58 from: its_all_downhill Hi Martin Due to computer woes I managed to lose my templates, also the back on my external drive I am in the process of considering a .Mac account so I can store files completly of my computer. ... work to greater precision. Your friend should be able to export the DXF file for you. On the other hand, XTrkCad is free and as far as I know works in Crossover or Parallels on a Mac or Linux. You could therefore get your own copy of XTrkCad and create the DXF file yourself from your friends XTC data file. XTrkCad can be downloaded from: http://www.xtrkcad.org There is a page showing Templot tracks designed over a DXF import from XTrkCad at: http://85a.co.uk/ision/rene_tandem.htm Like this: rene_tandem4.gif Note that the tracks shown in grey are background shapes imported from XtrkCad, they are not Templot templates and cannot be adjusted using the usual Templot controls. The maximum number of background shapes which Templot can support is 32000. For this reason, when exporting a DXF file from a large XtrkCad track plan for use in Templot, it is very advisable to export the track centre-lines only, without the rails and sleepers (ties) -- i.e. not the full tracks as showing in this ...

... still the only other layout design programs which will export DXF files in a format which can be imported directly into Templot's background shapes as a design guide. This has the advantage over using a screenshot as a background picture shape in that you can zoom in without it becoming pixellated and so work to greater precision. So I thought I would post a new topic containing some old notes about this. There is an old page showing Templot tracks designed over a DXF import from XTrackCAD at: http://85a.co.uk/ision/rene_tandem.htm Like this: rene_tandem4.gif Note that the tracks shown in grey are background shapes imported from XTrackCAD, they are not Templot templates and cannot be adjusted using the usual Templot controls.
