... cheers, Martin. posted: 13 May 2020 13:43 from: Gordon S Thanks Martin. ET is 18' x 14', but I plan to cut off the bottom end of the plan as that is just plain track. Looking at the drawing I have in front of me the aspect ratio is probably 3:2. The dimensions were off the top of my head, so probably 600 x 400. In terms of jagged edges, I was looking at an enlarged .png print on my screen which is set at 1920 x 1080 resolution. I'm not a computer/graphics expert, so there may be a better file type to export. Here's a pic from my screen showing what I meant. 479_130823_550000000.jpg The problem I have is mentally transferring a straight line schematic as per block diagrams, into the curved layout of my own track work. Remember it is spread over three sides and some of the turnouts may be 10' away from the control point and I have no chance of seeing if I have operated the correct one, ...

There have been adhesion problems with small diameter prints at around 6 mill diameter or less; a cure for this was to place the small cylinder on a sacrificial larger thin disc base and truncated cone. Another problem was found when printing a cylinder with 2mm dia spigot; the plastic became distorted due to insufficient cooling time between layers. This was completely resolved by printing six components at a time. It took about seven seconds to complete each layer in the set, by which time the previous layer had cooled sufficiently to be stable. regards Les G Last edited on 12 Aug 2015 21:59 by Les G posted: 13 Aug 2015 09:51 from: Howard Les G wrote: We are currently printing PLA at 210 initial then 200 for the main print. ... chairs before you can shove the timbers otherwise the rail will get slewed over? posted: 30 Jul 2018 18:01 from: Martin Wynne Thanks Rob. The 3D printing stuff is going over my head too. I'm still writing DXF code the same way I did in the 1980s. That's why I started this separate topic to cover the track design aspects. Here is something that will be possible. If you omit a timber when shoving, its chairs go too, as you can see. However, if instead you set its length to zero, making it invisible, its chairs remain unsupported on the rails. Adjacent long timbers can then be extended under them: 2_301256_010000000.png With the timbers invisible, shoving them along will be a way to slide the chairs along the rails to any desired position. 2_301320_510000000.png UPDATE: We now have the keys, and outer jaws on the S1 chairs. I then find I can't print the original crossover, despite going into the template store; there's no print box shown. Hi Roy, I'm sorry you are having trouble. A crossover is made up from two separate turnout templates. Printing a curved one is really quite straightforward: 1. Start with a suitable size for the first turnout. Use the F5 mouse action to set the size. Curved turnouts usually need to be longer than straight ones to keep the radius within bounds. C-10 is a good size to try. 2. Set the required radius in the running line, using the F6 mouse action. See this starter video showing F5 and F6 mouse actions being used to print a curved C-10 turnout: http://www.templot.com/martweb/videos/flash/startup/startup_em.html To make a crossover from it: 3. The best place for this is probably in the file name where it can't get lost, perhaps water_tank_20x20ft.gif or some such. Here I have added your tank to a track plan. Note however that zooming cancels any mouse action in force, so if you are in a mouse action, take care not to inadvertently roll the wheel while drag panning. Note that these are conventional button-down drags, unlike the click-move-click CAD-style action for the mouse actions. If you have a programmable mouse, for any of the above to work you need to have the wheel button set for "Middle Click" or "AutoScroll". All the other panning functions are retained, which means that there are now a dozen different ways to pan across the pad, but in testing I've found this new way to be very convenient. The left button is the more intuitive, but the middle button gives you greater flexibility. Surely easier for the user to be presented with a window containing boxes/buttons for each option so you set each one without having to drop back down through the menus. When I do this, I do not want or need track centre lines, or timbers which are both easy to switch off, but I like to do things such as show the grid as a dotted black line, have the transition curve markers in white, background shapes (in my case, putative baseboard outlines) in black and so on.
