You would need to go back a long way to see the introduction of the tools> make crossover function, it was part of the first release 17 years ago: tut5-16.gif But if you do read about new functions and try them, it would be helpful to post something saying so. That makes it more likely that others will notice it too. For example in the latest program update I added the extend/shorten to meet functions. I have found them extremely useful and time-saving, and I've been kicking myself for not doing some such years ago. See: topic 2969 I prepared a short tutorial page about them (begin paragraph 6): http://templot.com/companion/link_existing.html But so far silence. I'm not sure if this is a bug or a feature or just a clunky user interface. What you are intended to do if you want longer check rails is 1. extend the overall length of the template (F4) sufficiently to contain them. 2. if that makes the MS exit too long, shorten it back using the mouse action (sorry no shortcut available for this one): 2_261725_480000000.png Or on the menu: 2_261749_300000000.png Traditionally nothing can exist beyond the overall template length (F4). Cheers, Bryan. Martin will be able to tell you whether such is the case or not, but I wonder whether the program is preventing further shortening of some wing rails because any such further shortening would prevent the rails concerned from performing their intended function. One area of potential difficulty in this respect is the checking of the obtuse crossing adjacent to the outer rail of the slip road. When a flangeway for the slip road is incorporated, the effect will be to make the check rails for that obtuse crossing very short, possibly to the extent that they are incapable of performing their intended checking function. This has been stated many times before but people still do it. Trying to timber crossovers correctly can be quite difficult sometimes. It is often easier to adjust the track spacing slightly to get the timbers to align before attempting anything else. I have reset the timbering of the platform crossover and adjusted the track centres to 44.9mm which gives a much better starting point. The ideal spacing will vary according to the crossing angle. The intention is that the original templates can be automatically adjusted for length to fit the new transition template. This will avoid the tedious business of zooming in to do that manually. Likewise when adjusting the underlying templates after make diamond-crossing at intersection. The new function will also be useful in other circumstances where the position of a template boundary needs to be moved, for example to enable a turnout to be inserted. Or where a gap or overlap needs to be eliminated, for example before using the roll rails to match function. At present such tasks have to be done manually. It is working quite well (within sensible limits). But I'm uncertain how much misalignment to allow before reporting an error in the original template alignments.
