... i'm sure) problem. I have two offset parallel straight sections separated by about 12". I want to join these with an s bend to form a single track and then add some turnouts along the length. My problem is joining the two sections with the s bend while maintaining the parallel straight section at the start and end of the track. I've tried transition curves (easement from straight) etc. but i always end up with a curve at the end or the straights not being parallel. I'm sure there's a simple solution, but i'm still trying to get my head around all the options and get lost so any pointers would be appreciated. All it means is that these templates have had their turnout-side (TS) adjacent track spacing set much wider than usual. You can see that the reason for that was probably to create double-track across ...

My question is, how do I deal with the cant on this crossover/connection? I would like to cant the main lines- for appearance's sake- but I cannot see how to do this at the junction. These thoughts have been sparked by finding a note in a 1970s Railway Magazine, which describes how such a complex arrangement had been replaced by a simple trailing point, which allowed them to remove the speed restriction on the main line. Is it therefore, that in steam days, when track followed traditional formations, that the lines would have been laid flat and a speed restriction imposed? Would this be true of both ends of the loop- the crossover/trailing single slip at one end and the simple trailing turnout at the other? The alternatives of either laying all the tracks at the same cant, all on the same plane. So the outer tracks are well ...

Display quality uses a full resampling function which is very much slower. Choosing the right setting is especially important if you use the option to show the sketchboard items on the trackpad. This is because of the significant zooming-in that is typically required on the trackpad. When using the display quality option, zooming and panning on the trackpad will be very significantly slower and should be avoided if possible. ...

This means that I can, eventually, have the two running lines out to the garden. I still want a siding leading to a cassette for the short term. As the siding lengths can remain the same I have more space to slew the lines from the exit of the garage door to behind the bush. I wondered if there is a simple-ish way, of converting a slew to a set of transition curves. My attempts have been a bit rubbish so far. The reason for the conversion is that I need to put some turnouts on the slew and I find this easier to do with transition curves than with slews. The distance between the tracks centers are 555.8mm and the distance I have to play with is 4530mm, all in Scale 7. The attached box is the fixed bits of the fiddle yard. ... to fix plastic chairs to plastic sleepers, by placing the chair in position then flowing a small amount of solvent around the edge, you find it works it's way under the chair by capillary action, mainly around the edges, which is where the chair and sleeper end up being joined. This is easily strong enough to keep chair in position; if by any chance it isn't you just flow a bit more solvent. Because the chair is mainly joined around the edge, if you need to adjust it, it is fairly simple to slip a sharp blade under the chair and ease it off, without damaging the chair. I'd suggest Ian gives it a go with recommended solvents and sees what he thinks. I'd also suggest he does a few inches or so of plain track first before dealing with the (slightly) more complex world of turnout construction. ... be a CAD program nor any sort of drawing package. The important difference is that Templot does the drawing work, not you -- you can't draw a line on the screen and have it converted into track. Only Templot can draw track on the screen. That might seem strange coming from a CAD experience, but once you get into Templot you will find that you don't have any reason to do such a thing. It would be comparatively easy to implement a function which creates plain track templates from imported DXF data for simple straight lines and arcs. But there is not much reason to do that while DXF import (from other software) of Templot's turnouts, half-diamonds, transition curves and slews is impossible. Templot's only CAD-like functions are in the background shapes, which are primitive in the extreme but do include an import of simple DXF data (essentially just points, lines and arcs -- originally intended for vectorised raster images). There is a basic mechanism to get track templates aligned to the imported data. If you ...
