... RogerW EXPERIMENT- It was in 7mm but I feel I have to add something in here. I was tasked with "Getting it working", the "it" being a friend's new layout that had been planned with Templot but not actually built to the correct standards. All the problem points were rebuilt for curvature on the frogs and leads to them, but on one particular three-way turnout I had to chop the fixed length blade in two, the tortoise point motor could not cope. For convenience I tried a simple brass wood screw, then soldering the now truncated point blade to the top of the screw, the tortoise had no problem with the new set up. posted: 14 Feb 2019 13:42 from: Phil O madscientist wrote: Can you experts enlighten me, did loose heel just pivot at the" loose" fishplate. pictures Ive seen had a chair( not a slide) one immediately after the fishplate, was this a special one with" give", was there more then one of these on the" ...

... storage capacity. Do you want roughly equal length in all roads? That means laying out the turnouts in a tree configuration with each road splitting into two. Or with one much longer road but each additional road getting progressively shorter? That means laying out the turnouts in a string along the inner or outer road. If the string configuration is laid along the running line, it has an advantage for model control in that to select a road only one turnout needs to be reversed, the rest being reset normal. So a simple rotary switch is sufficient. For a tree configuration a logic matrix of some sort is needed. Next is to lay out the siding alignments with sufficient spacing for running clearance, and for a fiddle yard with additional clearance for handling the rolling stock. 2_080850_260000000.png You have indicated a string design, so I continued with that. Create a branch track on each turnout, convert it to a simple link to the next road. Check the resulting radius. If ok insert the next turnout in it and repeat, otherwise go back ...

... -- --- Hello all Not being shy to show my ignorance: When one prints up a template there are little cross marks/ dashes across each point blade. One is near the frog/vee end say 1/3 along, and another toward the point blade tip, say another 1/3 along. I am making points using PCB for sleepers. They are not yet fully tested on a layout, but are each mounted on separate boards for ease of assembly. And they seem to be OK on simple rolling tests. 7mm scale by the way. Now for the question- until now I did not notice the small mark near the blade tips. I pivoted the blade on the mark closer to the frog/vee. Of course at times I get a quite long moving blade. Prototypically they look OK for me, as I'm trying to simulate simple trackwork as used by the Colonel Stephens.... what is the mark closer to the blade tips- should that be the pivot point? First question why do the point timbers follow the curved stock rail and not the straight stock rail, what am I doing wrong and please how do I change it. (thanks to who put in timbering styles I have found the button for square timbering) Secondly I am used to points being described in inch radius, I understand that I will now work in crossing angles, but is there a simple chart or a rule of thunb which tells me what the equivalent crossing angles are to 36", 48" and 60" radius points please, as this will give me a good reference point. ... matter what I do I cannot seem to alter the flangeway widths for groups. Of course works OK for individual templates. Have I found a problem or am I just missing something? Hi Stephen, You can do it by creating a custom gauge/scale setting, and then using the convert group button, on the gauge/scale selector dialog. As always with this function, template alignments may be disrupted. The gauge/scale selector dialog is at gauge> other gauges... menu item. There isn't a simple way of doing it because it's not simple. For turnouts having regular type V-crossings with auto-fit entry straight (the Templot default), changing the flangeway gap changes the crossing entry straight and hence the turnout lead length. Template alignments can therefore be disrupted. To avoid this, before changing the flangeway gap on a regular template which is part of a track plan, go to real> V-crossing options> V-crossing settings... menu item*, and change from auto-fit ...

Or single-sided (both the same hand), where an outer road is the main road for both switches. Or they can be type 2 tandems (less common) where the second switch is in the turnout road of the first switch instead of the main road. As you might expect the actual construction section is based on current 2mm scale components, but many of the procedures are common to other scales. There is a strong emphasis on the importance of the check gauge in pointwork and the need to ensure accurate alignment of the crossing together with guidance on how to achieve this. The chapters on common techniques and tools start with a section on soldering technique followed by the procedures for building crossing and switches including a number of simple tools that you can make to help. The technique for filing rail for switches and crossing that has been described on Templot Club is included but with a simple and important improvement that avoids the risk of filing away the guide block. The final chapter on laying and finishing includes a section of turnout operation. This starts with a detailed examination of the requirements so that solutions can be properly evaluated. ... prototype, but having said that it has been known for people to use small pieces of brass the thickness of which is about model rail height above the sleeper, and soldering these onto the rails first (or the sleepers first) and then soldering them together (the rail with the brass to the sleeper or visa versa). This then brings the rail to more or less the right prototype height, the downside is, it's more time consuming, and adds to the cost of construction. b). It is fairly simple to thread the individual chairs onto the rail length, then the tricky part is gluing the chairs to the sleepers in the right positions. It does save cutting the chairs as in the previous method, and raises the rails to more or less the prototype level above the sleeper. One problem I have heard of is, that some times this method makes the moving switch rail of turnouts tip slightly over and not allow proper closure of the switch blades. This is apparently due to the flexibility of the plastic chairs not giving ...

I suspect the answer is "no" because even a switch is still a complete turnout, just with most of it blanked off. That's right. There are only 3 base types of template: plain track turnout half-diamond If you want some other designation, you must add it yourself as a prefix tag or as part of the name(s). It's not quite that simple, because a turnout can be normal or gaunt, and a half-diamond can be regular or irregular, and... I don't want to go down that route with the ID numbers, because it would soon get messy and be meaningless to beginners. I've just knocked up a quick experimental and simple track plan involving just one turnout, a couple of feet or so of diverging rails, and a bit of approach track. Now the last sleeper next to the turnout on the approach track slightly overlaps the last sleeper of the turnout, so I thought this might be a good time to try out rolling sleepers to get the right sleepers with the right spacing at the rail joint with the turnout. No problem, it worked fine. However, the other end of the approach track now has a sleeper which is a bit beyond the end of the rail, and I thought that for neatness it would be nice to extend the rail to reach just beyond the sleeper. So I pressed F4, thinking this would do the trick. No. What it now does is continue to roll the sleepers, leaving the rail the ...
