... the trouble. Martin: Before adding the wing rails, check that the vee nose is correctly gauged from the stock rails, and equidistant between them. Rob: There aren't any stock rails at this stage in the construction process. I am trying to make the common crossing first( the hardest part!). I want to have the PCB timbers on the Templot template with just the vee and wing rails soldered to it. Imagine buying a pre-soldered common crossing from Brian Lewis and just plonking that down onto the sleepers. There didn't seem much mileage in making them like Brian does with small metal strips soldered underneath( for guys building plastic or wood based turnouts) as the PCB timbers can perform the same function for me. Martin: Then make sure that the angle of the bend in the wing rail exactly matches the crossing angle on the vee. Check by sliding the wing rail through the gauge tools up against the vee and seeing that it is properly flush against the side of the vee. Adjust the bend as necessary. Then ...

So should I shorten the straight track to the point of beginning the curve and then add a curved piece or is there a way to curve (or bend) around a midpoint (or other location)? b) Is there a way to "snap" one piece to another so that they line up correctly with correct sleeper spacing? c) How do you move the ruler? ... switch and crossing practice and have had adjustments made as best as I can work out based on the GWSG publication on the matter by David Smith. The rails are based on GWR 44'6" lengths with 18 timbers. The catch points in the lead are just plonked over the turnout in the yard. I read that the only way to do this is separate templates. (I think I could do better next time by idea of copying the control, changing end for end and using roam for positioning.) I know the sleepers aren't properly adjusted. I haven't quite figured this out. The sleeper rolling does something but regardless of the option I don't seem to get a correct outcome when I count the sleepers between rail end marks. Worse though, I expect, is the matching up to the ends of the turnouts, which I decided to achieve by snaking the plain track through the peg so that I could match the spacing from the last timber and/or adjusting the length until I lost the rail joint in the right place. It's good ...

Anyway, all I am trying to do at the moment is specify a new custom rail length and sleeper spacing, and if I can get to the spacing from the first sleeper to the second sleeper, I am doing well. The data entry window is active, and indeed is sitting in front of everything else and completely immoveable. Earlier I managed this, but when trying to alter the sleeper width to something non-standard, the session just hung on me, and I had to force quit it. As you can see, my turnout templates are basically REA semi-curved. I am gradually 'relaying' the main tracks with CWR as per your notes utilising 24 sleepers per 60' length for straights and 26 sleepers per 60' for curved track. However, what I am not sure about is what to convert the turnouts to. If I base the infrastructure around 1990 would the main running line turnouts still be wood timbered within concrete sleepered plain track? Should FB rail and timbers be 'C' series curved flexible switches? How much pointwork and plain track off the mainline would still be BH? Plain track will then be identified with the template ID number only, at approximately 100mm intervals. This will make the print-outs a lot less cluttered. This option is included in your saved program preferences. The option remains on by default for compatibility with previous versions.
