I've selected the BH size B semi-curved flexible switch (I'm building on a 6 foot diameter curve). The maximum number of background shapes which Templot can support is 32000. For this reason, when exporting a DXF file from a large XtrkCad track plan for use in Templot, it is very advisable to export the track centre-lines only, without the rails and sleepers (ties) -- i.e. not the full tracks as showing in this image. XtrkCad puts all the track details in one layer in the DXF file. You need this layer to contain only the track centre-lines, not the rails or sleepers. So you must change the settings in XtrkCad first: Turning off the sleepers is easy -- Options> Display> "Draw Ties"> None. Turning off the rails is not so obvious. When I print a trackplan it prints fine and has solid black lines for sleeper/timber outlines and centrelines and a solid black line for track centreline. Timber infill colour is set to white. However when I send the same trackplan to a PDF (selecting B&W mode) all the sleeper/timber outlines and centrelines and the track centreline are broken dotted lines rather than solid lines. Where is the setting that I have missed to change this so the PDF( when printed) looks just the same as the direct Templot print? BTW Templot insists that my Brother HL-2240D( a B&W A4 Duplex laser printer) is a colour printer as in the message "You have selected the black& white only option for your template printing. ... topic: 2264 Obtuse crossings and how they are timbered? posted: 21 Jul 2013 19:46 from: LSWRArt I am currently trying to build a crossing with a straight line crossing a curve. At one end, the common crossing has an angle of 1:2.14. The other end is nearer 1:3. I found that 12" sleepers would not work for the 1:2 end and I have had to replace them with 14" wide sleepers, so that the chairs would hang off the edge of the sleeper. Slide the chairs onto the rail (suggest Mozart as accompaniment!), then solder cosmetic fishplates into the web. Don't forget to group the chairs in sections first- you can't slide them past the fishplates once they're on. For electrical connection, I use brass lace-making pins (about 0.6mm diameter), pushed through tight holes in the sleepers and bigger holes in the trackbed and baseboard, then wired underneath. You need exactly two such droppers on each rail section- on adjacent sleepers so that expansion between them is miniscule, but avoiding a single point of failure. Solder the rails to these- in 4mm the pin head leaves the rail height above the sleeper exactly matching the plastic chairs, although in your 7mm this might not be the case. Splitting the chairs that go on these sleepers in half and cementing them, cosmetically, in place leaves the droppers ...
