... out if they were sprung we had a good chat. A word that was used in the conversation several times was 'pragmatic'....not a sprung hornblock or compensation beam in sight. I even have an invite to visit Little Bytham So from what you( Andy in the US) are saying the argument applies to weight carried on the driven wheels. Weight on non-driven pony or bogie wheels may keep the axle load down but is wasted in helping to pull the train. At least I can keep my 4x4 smug in the knowledge I can cope with the worst of the British weather Rob P.S. Yes, fairly well thanks Andrew. posted: 5 Oct 2019 22:37 from: Andrew Barrowman Rob Manchester wrote: Hi Andrew&Andy, Should have missed the 'traction' word out of my post, would have made things much simpler Maybe should just have said that sprung/compensated locos run better or look nicer or something. I'm feeling very smug Peter posted: 14 Jan 2012 11:56 from: NickJ Hi Peter, I've been happily and successfully running versions of Templot on Linux for about five years now. :big grin: The only glitch I've experienced, which happens with TDV, is that the dialogue window for changing the track spacing, which I use when setting out sidings, is very slow. It works, but you have to be very patient while it processes. Nick posted: 14 Jan 2012 12:10 from: sevenmil Hello Nick, I have found there a couple of things which make TDV on linux hang its not Templot at fault I hasten to add. Which version of Linux do you use? Next time I manage to hang the program I will write down the cause ...

... and the "younger generation" are always the future! But you are asking yourself the tough question "perhaps I am failing somewhere" but I think you already know the answer to that- documentation! I too get plenty of "it does not work as I expected..." from the people who use my software but in 99% of cases I am able to respond "if you look in section xxx of the Help Documentation you will see that...". Now that might seem a bit smug of me but a) it saves me having to generate an answer to every question and b) it encourages them to try a bit of self help for next time. I cannot accept Matt M's blanket condemnation of "the current generation" and the assumption that they must be "Spoon fed" My son, 26 years old, a Master's degree civil Engineering graduate cannot be told ANYTHING! If he gets hold of new software, he teaches himself- full stop! Now learn by doing might have risks, but ...
