... : 1093 The Y turnout again.... posted: 1 Apr 2010 06:03 from: BruceNordstrand Hi All Well, I finally used Templot to lay out my new layout and have pretty much everything handled aside from 2 Y turnouts and a crossing. Now I know Templot can't handle big angle crossings, and thats fine, but I have read that Y turnouts are possible. 632_010047_420000000.png These are the 3 offending bits.... The upper turnout needs to fit into the pace as indicated. Looking from the switchpoints, the RH track is a 25.5" radius, the LH track is 48.7" radius: 632_010050_030000000.png The next Y is the one on the right of the top image. ... ! And funny because I recognize it, its from the PRR Standard plans, pdf 61502 I have downloaded loads of their stuff, but Im trying to keep my track slightly more modern. Slightly newer recommendations (from the PRR unless I remember wrong) call for 16' 6" points up to about no 10 turnouts. And then increase to 19' 6" points (which seem to be a standard switch length on newer stuff). I also have UP plans for a #10 turnout using 29' 11" switchpoints, but thats for a mainline switch and this is just for a yard entry switch just after leaving the main. So I think Ill go for 19' 6" points.
