... topic: 2394 RH_Curved tandem posted: 31 Jan 2014 19:30 from: Trevor Walling Hello, I have been trying to do a RH-Curved tandem template following the tandem video tutorial. However I just don't seem to get it. I get as far as CTRL-F6 snake through peg and then I get stuck. Deciding where to slide to just becomes confusion. 2110_311411_540000000.png I tried to follow the tutorial in conjunction with the following from the Yahoo Templot group which I believe would be of help. Here's how to get started with a tandem: 1. Set up you first turnout, say a B8 LH, and store it on the background. 2. Get your second turnout, say an A6 RH, as the current template, and set it to have no timbering. 3. Click on the first one, then PEG/ALIGN TOOLS to align the current template over it, FACING-FACING. 4. Ctrl-F6 to SNAKE the current template over the background template until the following conditions are met: a) ...

... topic: 1720 Interlaced timbering on a NBR tandem posted: 9 Dec 2011 17:42 from: John Palmer This is my first post on this forum, and I'll begin with a big thank you to Martin for having provided such a powerful and useful software tool as Templot. I am attaching the box file for the most recent evolution of my projected West Highland model: an alternative to the Mallaig Extension based on the premise of a railway along the west shore of Loch Shiel to a terminus on South Loch Moidart via Acharacle. The box file shows the current layout for the terminus, any resemblance to Mallaig being entirely intentional. In the late 'eighties I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to measure and photograph a North British turnout at Rannoch with interlaced timbering. The turnouts on the attached drawing reflect the data collected at Rannoch. The projected layout features one tandem turnout, the employment of which is fairly critical as I haven't found a satisfactory alternative way to fit in the required facilities. Whilst I am reasonably content with the geometry of this ...

Attached to this post is the box file and the next two posts contain the two screenshots at the time the issue occurred. I do hope I haven't done anything wrong this time The starting template was a 1:12 curviform turnout in a length of straight track and I just let Templot proceed through the process without any changes when asking for the tandem. I did have an issue earlier when a stock rail in the 2nd v-crossing was not lined up but the issue above occured when I was trying to re-produce it. I will let you know. Previously that would have required a zero-length transition, with a corresponding change on the turnout side. Now a length of sleeper-less plain track can be pegged on over the timbers. Also useful where the main-road rails need to be shorter than the wing rails and check rails, for example when using V-crossings as partial templates in other formations such as a tandem turnout. Unfortunately I must be misreading something because I can't get this to work as it appears it should from the guidance notes. I've also read the recent exchanges re:Brighton tandems, but still can't work out what I'm doing wrong. I've positioned the peg using CTRL-F8 on the intersection of the two rails and put the notch on the peg. I've created a new template with the crossing at 1:12 (it's obviously going to be much more than that anyway), curviform, and gaunt options selected as per instructions. I then peg this to the notch (using the *multiply key). The notes then suggest using F6 to adjust the curvature to match the underlying template- but it's obvious that the control template is not aligned over the background template(s) at all ...

Rolling rails is CTRL+ F4 mouse action -- it works only for plain track, so you may need to split turnout templates first. Formations comprised of multiple partial templates, such as a 3-way tandem turnout, do not show on the sketchboard in diagram mode. They do show in detail mode. For a neat result in diagram mode, you can temporarily overlay plain track templates, which can be kept as unused templates in the storage box until needed. In P4 crossing a board joint at a skew angle requires some precision carpentry to avoid misalignments. A slight gap between the boards (due to an uneven floor perhaps) can be crossed square, but not at an angle. The first idea is to replace the slip road with a separate crossover, using a tandem turnout in the main: fremington1.png Pros: Maintains the existing run-round length. Tracks cross the joint square. Clear length in the platform road is increased a little while using the main road to head spur. Cons: The head spur for running round is very short, only about 12" clear. Just room for a loco only.
