... could you attach your BOX file of a template matching the Cliff Barker kit? I've spent a long time looking at his web site, but unable to find any prototype information at all relating to the switch sizes or crossing angles. There isn't even a downloadable template as far as I can see: http://www.cliffbarker.me.uk Getting a constant timber spacing through an entire turnout is going to be tricky, because the prototype doesn't work that way. Here's an overview of the settings: http://templot.com/companion/timber_spacings_overview.php For a regular V-crossing you can set the closure fill spacing to an exact figure by careful adjustment of the crossing entry straight (SHIFT+ F11 mouse action), which modifies the lead length. When creating a custom switch, there is an option to let Templot create the timber spacings. Which in practice means the closure infill spacing flows through the switch as far as the switch toe. If you can post your BOX file, I will make the required settings for you. cheers, Martin. posted: ...

... change timber spacing to 1.4 millimiters between edges? Thank you very much in advance. Hi Tim, Welcome to Templot Club. The timbering data in Templot is based on the prototype dimensions (real railway sizes). Generally the spacing is not constant. The various special chairs (rail fixings) must fit the rails in specific locations. Which means the timber positions must be adjusted to support them. This page explains where to find the menu items for each section of a turnout: http://templot.com/companion/timber_spacings_overview.php timber_spacings_899x436.png Timber spacing is always specified from the centre of one timber to the centre of the next one, not by setting the gap between them. For Z gauge the scale is 1:220. If the gap between them is 1.4mm, that means on the prototype it is 1.4 x 220= 308mm. If your prototype timbers are say 250mm(?) wide, that means the centre-to-centre spacing would be 250+ 308= 558mm, which is 22 inches. So you would enter 22 inches ...

... Club. Some impressive pointwork there. We need a bit more information -- the Midland Railway didn't use REA switches (introduced 1925), so if you have MR data you should probably be creating a custom switch: 2_091700_410000000.png To customize the timbering in the rest of the turnout you can use the real> timbering> timbering data... and real> V-crossing options> customize V-crossing> menu items: timber_spacings_899x436.png For more information on the above, see: http://templot.com/companion/timber_spacings_overview.php The shove timber functions are intended to create modifications specific to a single template, rather than to replicate standard prototype designs*. For example if 2 timbers conflict in a junction, or a timber needs shortening to clear an obstruction, or lengthening to carry rodding cranks.* but in some cases they may be the only way of doing that. To save and re-use any setting in Templot you need to store a template containing it. Usually marked as a library template to remind you why it's in the file ...

... no reference to any prototype, which remains unchanged. If that is REA UK bullhead before changing the scale/gauge, it will be the same afterwards. For all Templot knows, some modellers may want to model UK bullhead using the NMRA O Scale standards. If you want to model USA-style prototypes, you need to customize the template accordingly. Even if you want to model them in EM. For the timber customizing, don't use the shove timber functions, see: http://templot.com/companion/timber_spacings_overview.php It would be utterly impossible for Templot to know all the prototype dimensions world-wide. Templot defaults to UK REA bullhead, with some options for GWR switches and BR UK 1950s flat-bottom switches. If that's not what you want, it is up to you to change it, and provide the prototype dimensions. Templot doesn't know them. American ties (there is no distinction between sleepers and timbers) are typically 9" wide by 7" thick, but the spacing varies for different prototype companies and classes of ...

... it in the version of Templot I was using in 2011. Hi Alan, It has always been possible, nothing has changed: 2_260759_350000000.png There is info about setting custom rail lengths and sleeper spacings here: http://templot.com/martweb/pdf_files/gwr_track_panels.pdf That tutorial was written by Stuart Hince several years ago, but it is still valid for Templot2. It is specifically for GWR 44ft-6in track panels, so you need to change the dimensions accordingly. ... FB switches and timbering, although not based on any specific prototype. You can curve them and change them to other sizes using the F5 and F6 mouse actions in the usual way, retaining the custom settings. They are for H0-NMRA, but that topic explains how to convert them to other scales and gauges. Nothing much has changed in the timber-customizing in recent years, information in older posts and topics still applies. There is an overview of the process here: http://templot.com/companion/timber_spacings_overview.php although like so much of the Companion it is waiting for me to write the rest of it. cheers, Martin.
