If the former, had the sketchboard items been displaying normally up until then? The most likely reason is lack of system resources due to the extreme magnification needed as you zoom in on the trackpad. There is an option setting you can change to help with that, on the sketchboard control panel, settings tab, change transfer mode to low-res. ... topic: 1161 Printers v Plotters posted: 7 Jul 2010 10:45 from: Stephen Freeman Hi, Recently I had occasion to dust off my ancient Roland Plotter and use it. Purpose was twofold. 1) I had just run out of normal A3 paper and only had plotter paper to hand having used most of my supply for a rather large project. 2) I wanted to test it out, as I have decided to use it for other purposes, namely custom waterslide transfer and pcb production (one-offs mainly) plus it also gives me the possibility for small quantities of chemical etching. How you might ask is this possible? Well, I originally bought the thing, many moons ago to produce artwork for just that but technology overtook the need for hardcopy and I was too busy to go further with it (all pre-dates my business activity). You can get special pens for it which can be used for putting down resist, for pcbs the only problem is board thickness, standard 1.6mm is too thick so ...

... files are not cross-compatible with T2 BOX files. That's because they are both in binary format and Lazarus does not support the 80-bit extended floating-point format which is used throughout T2. Which meant that users of OT would have no access to their backlog of T2 BOX files. When Rob mentioned that he was actually using TemplotMEC in anger, it dawned on me that doing something about that was quite urgent. Paul Boyd also mentioned that he was waiting for a solution. I have now created a file transfer format provisionally called MECBOX which can be used to import and export files to and fro between OT and T2. I shall shortly be posting scruff releases of both which users of T2 can use to create an archive of MECBOX files from their old BOX files. These can then be imported into OT as and when needed, and then saved again in OTBOX format for normal use. There is also a new option in T2 (on by default), to create a matching MECBOX file whenever a BOX file is saved. ...

I hadn't given much thought to the alignment issue with the laser printer, but have found a slight wander when sticking multiple pages together. I tend to take a reasonable compromise if I do see it wandering and then bring it back in line on subsequent sheets. One of the problems this can give you is when you transfer the plan to the baseboard. If you have a slight wander on say 10 sheets taped together, you can be some way out without realising it. The wander could be caused by the printer, inaccurate cutting to the edges with a guillotine or even poor alignment when taping the sheets. What I now do is use the digital ruler in Templot and take measurements to the track centre line where it crosses a baseboard join. This will give me a measurement from the front of the board to the track centre line on ...

I'm not sure that "copy" does that. We also have the options to store the template as unused, or as a library template, and it's not easy to see "copy" working for those. Also, "copy" does not specify a direction -- we already have "copy to the control" for transfers in the reverse direction. We could end up with too many copies to make sense. On the other hand, I have never liked "store& background" -- it is too much of a mouthful, it's too long to fit easily on menus and buttons, the meaning is far from clear to beginners, and it is too easily confused with the background shapes functions. But the term "background template" is now scattered throughout the program, videos and help notes. Changing it to something else would be ...

I'm transferring the file as a PDF (using PDF995) to my works computer via CD, so I can print it on a Roller Plotter (I'm selecting a paper size of 36" by 60" since there doesn't appear to be an option for roller paper in PDF995, and anyway anything bigger would probably be unwieldy). ... my opinion, the purpose of Templot is specifically so that you can design templates based on prototype track knowledge. If you don't have that knowledge, you can only use Templot as a generic template or layout design tool, and you're not making best use of it. For instance, I have layouts with all templates based on WC&PR trackwork from the early 1900s, or Festiniog Railway based on 1960s trackwork where I've actually gone and measured turnouts in detail, or GWR templates based on the GWSG book. You can only transfer all that into Templot- no other program that I'm aware of can give you that. I'm hesitant to say this, but if you just want to spend time making track then maybe Templot isn't for you. If you want to spend time making track that conforms to prototype standards, then Templot is for you. There is also a disturbing tendency for Templot to become a hobby in its own right I've got loads of layouts Templotted that will never get built, but I enjoying planning them as much as building other stuff ...
