... when this mouse action starts. In the video the template alignment is in a separate background template so that you can see what is happening. That is not usually the case of course. The slide through peg mouse action moves the fixing peg along its current centre-line and shifts/rotates the template on the trackpad to keep the fixing peg fixed in position on the trackpad. The template alignment shifts with the template. If the peg is on the main-road centre-line and the template is not on a transition curve or slewed, these two mouse actions are very similar in end result. Otherwise they produce different results as you can see in the video. In practice, snake tends to be used much more often than slide. Note in the video that although the red fixing peg appears to get "left behind" it is still part of the control template. Each template has its own fixing peg, which can be anywhere -- it doesn't have to be within its boundary. If my explanations above are impenetrable, sorry ...

So here is what I did: templot%20q2.png Which became this, after I erased the underlying tracks: templot%20q3.png OK, fine! But the timbering on the crossing looks 'weird'. How can I sort that out? Also, would the same principles apply if I wanted to create an irregular single/double slip within existing crossing plain track? I have watched the video on making slips and I think I just about have it, although thats for making ladder style crossings. My track plan seems to just have random slips all over the place, hence the need for the irregular ones. Hope my words make sense! Starting at Platform 3 on the right, I need the toe end of the turnout to cross the baseboard joint at 90 degrees and since I am using pre-assembled common crossings from C&L (which are straight), I think this turnout is 'final'. If I reduce the radius any further then the diverging radius drops below 36 inches and I have a transition of zero length between this curve and the common crossing. I have then made an ordinary crossover at 44.67mm centres, which should provide the access to Platform 2. I'm not sure why it stops short of the baseboard edge at 980mm, but it's not critical as this will be flexi-track. Jumping to the mainline from the fiddle yard (ie on the left), I have fitted a short straight and then a constant radius curve to the common crossing and again a straight through the common crossing. But it's a lot to explain, and years since I last did so, so I will make some new video clips shortly. Also it hardly belongs in the "baffled beginners" section, so I will move this topic to "Templot talk". You can have two different radii in a single template if you make it a transition curve template. If you want an instantaneous change of radius, you would set the transition zone length between the two radii to zero. More about all that at: http://templot.com/companion/transition_curves.php Zero-length transitions are sometimes useful for turnouts, but for plain track it is generally better to use two separate templates. There are pros and cons -- a zero-length transition template doesn't need any further work on the sleepers and rail joints. But several of the design functions in Templot are ...

You could instead slew the inner road, or slew both by half the amount. But it's generally better to leave the tighter radius undisturbed and modify only the easier one. Some of the shortcut keys don't seem to work as described but I expect that to be a version specific thing. Indeed shortcuts are only shortcuts if you can remember them. It does take a while looking for where things are in menus etc though. This specific issue: I had added the works siding by adding a branch track from the loop to works siding. I have tried to make a transition to straight to make the end of the works siding straight. No matter which end I put the peg the straight always ends up at the turnout. If you change to the seldom-used action> transition zone options> transition fixed (roll-out) mode for the mouse actions, the adjust transition length mouse action (SHIFT+ CTRL+ F4) will produce an irrecoverable error if the transition length is reduced to zero, or is zero or close to zero before you start. The only option then is to do CTRL+ ALT+ DEL and end the Templot task from the list. You won't lose any template data other than the current/control template -- background templates will be restored when you restart Templot. But you will lose any unsaved background shapes. A similar error may occur when adjusting the transition start (SHIFT+ CTRL+ F3), but in that case it's recoverable by ...

The .box file for this is attached below. If you adopt it you will need to realign the pointwork, but it's all good practice in Templot. ... topic: 1600 The hollow triangle symbol posted: 24 Aug 2011 20:38 from: Simon Dunkley Just a thought, and posted here following an email exchange with Martin, but since the backspace key can be used to access recent commands, in many instances it would be useful to use the empty triangle symbol to toggle between related commands, so that if F9 is selected for a half diamond, then clicking on the triangle will toggle to the F10 functionality, and vice-versa. If you have a transition curve, then clicking on the triangle when adjusting the radius (F6) toggles between the first and second radii, so you can see what I mean if it is not clear. In a similar vein, I would find it useful to be able to toggle between setting the start point of a transition curve, and setting the length of the transition. No, or at least not in traditional chaired track. Transition curves are normally used where there is a cant gradient (increasing superelevation) which means in effect that there is a twist in the track. Switch rails inserted in a twist wouldn't be able to slide properly or align with the stock rail.
