You can use all the usual track functions, transitions, slewing, etc., to build up a series of dummy templates representing the baseboard edge (or anything else). For this example I set the background shape lines to be printed 2mm wide: 2_132216_410000001.png (The platforms are part of the track templates, not background shapes.) You need to adjust the radius of one or the other or both of the templates until the track centre-lines do not quite intersect, like this: 2_040956_150000000.png Sometimes it is necessary to temporarily extend the length of the templates to see this. The length of the resulting transition zone is determined by the size of the gap you leave between them. This is the result of the above: 2_040956_160000001.png It now needs to be extended to fit the previous space -- more info at: http://templot.com/companion/link_existing.php ...

This is a very interesting story and it clears my old question about the name of this program. For the pipeline I have one additional item: how about a printable easement template? It could be printed and transferred to a piece of cardstock or more durable material and cut out. This template should have markings along a transition curve, which shows the actual radius at this point, and the adjoining offset to the centerline of the tangent. This offset is for accurate determining the center of the circular curve. I see I can have each easement printed individually. However there is no computer in the room where the layout is under construction, and with a "universal easement template" I can play around to find the most pleasing solution. It is intended to base the layout on a North British branch line around the Borders. In typical NB style, turnouts will have interlaced sleepers and loose heel switches. To produce a nice sweeping curve, the main running line and the loop line have been drawn using transition s-curves. Can anyone tell me what would be the best way of incorporating two crossovers into the transition s-curves to complete the run-round loop. ... like this. Use CTRL+ F3 mouse action to blank off the switch, and then add a bit of plain track as a separate template. Thanks, Martin. So this leads to the next question which I haven't had a chance to investigate yet. On of the main differences (at least in the US) between a point turnout and a stub turnout is how the diverging line leaves the switch. The diverging line in a stub turnout is a constant radius curve. The diverging line in a point turnout is a transition curve of sorts... that is, the diverging route is basically straight past the frog. Now the question: What geometry does Templot use for its switches? If it uses a constant radius curve, then I can indeed just cut it off at the points as you suggested above. But if it uses a transition curve, then cutting it off wouldn't really create a "proper" stub turnout. It is a steep learning curve but once you crest that, your productivity increases exponentially; I can knock out a double slip in under 90 seconds now! So in the interest of making things even speedier.... what I would find really useful would be an additional option on the "transition curve acceptance menu" that says something like "Yes- Continue and replace foundation templates". I find that the majority of the time I change the length of the transition curve, from both ends, to overlap the entirety of the two foundation templates and then delete the latter. I'm toying with ideas for a P4 test track and decided I should include a slip of some sort. Going for ease and aesthetic value, I opted for a 'double track with trailing connection to siding' sort of arrangement. Additionally I put the whole thing on a curve which transitions to straight track at each end. (the idea being that the test track can be tarted up and used as a photo plank as well). Due to the small size, one turnout and the slip lie within a transition. What I want is for the diverging route of the lower turnout to be completely straight, and I'd prefer a B8 (ish) or something that doesn't require a switched diamond within the slip.
