... EM- curves of varying radius posted: 3 Oct 2013 21:36 from: Andrew Duncan Hello Everyone I've been trying to get nice flowing curves on this plan that I'm proposing to build with a degree of success but I'm not completely happy with the result. You can see clearly the dogleg at the double junction top centre left of the plan and I am wondering if there's a recognised way of dealing with this varying type of curve in Templot 2. The track is just 2 templates so far, and I've used a transition curves in both to get to this stage. I've been wondering if I need to split up the main lines into smaller sections to have greater control as the radii changes, or will that just produce more doglegs at every join? Any advice would be gratefully received. Many thanks Andrew undefined 2787_031623_180000000.png posted: 4 Oct 2013 14:18 from: Phil O Hi Andrew I would would start a new template from about halfway between the double junction turnout and the cross over turnout and curve the template to about half way the ...

Whilst it's true that I've come on a long long way from those early days with Templot ,to my slight frustration I couldn't re create the first of the two diamonds at the north end of the platforms(top right on the plan) that comprise the line from the down Platform across the upline to the goods shed. I've been able to create diamonds else where but none of these has been on a transition curve. Do I need to first make a turnout, get that aligned and then create a half diamond after that? Can anyone give me some pointers or tell me where I can read up on this(ideally an illustrated version as I'm not too good with ...

This is just my idea of what you might do. I fully expect you to make changes and/or reject the whole thing. I made a few changes to your plan. It now contains some interesting formations to practice your trackbuilding skills. 2_081606_410000000.png I kept your preferred straight run through the platforms, but there are now transition curves at each end of the station to provide a smooth entry into the sharp end curves. The track spacing for the main station area is at the prototype 6ft way (44.67mm centres), but I increased it to 7ft way (48.67mm centres) in the sharp end curves to ensure clearance for vehicle overhangs. On the left I moved the main line crossover round into the curves to avoid a double reverse curve and increase the clear length in the platform. This has created a nice tandem turnout for the short siding ...

I have two offset parallel straight sections separated by about 12". I want to join these with an s bend to form a single track and then add some turnouts along the length. My problem is joining the two sections with the s bend while maintaining the parallel straight section at the start and end of the track. I've tried transition curves (easement from straight) etc. but i always end up with a curve at the end or the straights not being parallel. I'm sure there's a simple solution, but i'm still trying to get my head around all the options and get lost so any pointers would be appreciated. Attached a curved track to each side so that the curves are of equal radius (unless you want otherwise) and opposite hands so that they do not intersect. One curve should be stored in the background and the other the control template. Click on the template for the background curve and select the Peg/Align tools option. ... topic: 1281 Replacing a slew with transition curves posted: 8 Nov 2010 14:17 from: richard_t Hello I've managed to find another 1.5 meters for the fiddle yard for Manchester Windmill Street, and "permission" to route two of the lines through the camila bush rather than the one I currently thought I'd be able to do. This means that I can, eventually, have the two running lines out to the garden. I still want a siding leading to a cassette for the short term. As the siding lengths can remain the same I have more space to slew the lines from the exit of the garage door to behind the bush. I wondered if there is a simple-ish way, of converting a slew to a set of transition curves. My attempts have been a bit rubbish so far. The reason for the conversion is that I need to put some turnouts on the slew and I find this easier to do with transition curves than with slews. The distance between the tracks centers are 555.8mm and the distance I have ...

I have the disadvantage of having used AutoCad and similar packages beforehand, even though it was a long time ago. Now I'm trying to get to grips with transitions. I've managed to create a transition curve from a straight to a circular curve, although the "start" and "finish" were at the opposite ends to where I expected them. Now I want to create a transition curve at the other end of the circular curve back to a straight. I've read through the tutorials and watched the videos, but I can't find anything on this. I've placed a straight alongside the end of the curve and have tried to link them with a transition but Templot says it can't but won't say why. ...

... two straights? posted: 8 Nov 2008 18:07 from: Richard Spratt I've watched the Curly Corner video and reproduced it successfully. But now I want to do it with two track straight tracks that already exist on the plan at a shallow angle. The best I've managed is to extend the straights until they just intersect. Trim them both 500mm. Put a curve between them. This is templates 5, 6& 7 in the attached box file. Continuing, if I then try to change the curve to a transition it is only a transition at one end. So I then half the swing angle (incidentally halving the swing angle by typing it into the box usually results in calculation failure) and mirror it on peg, but then it doesn't line up with the second straight. Templates 1 to 4. Is there an easy way to get them to line up. Or so I need to persevere with shuffling them around until they look right?
