... I seem to have a number of places within each point that I'm not totally conviced are being properly held/supported by the plastic base plates I'm using. A recent discussion on the 2MM web discussion group about ballast and its colour reminded me that this book contains about 50 colour photographs of track, mostly close-ups that show ballast in its many colours and, sometimes dirty, forms. This useful book will be available from the Association stand at the Warley show later this month and from the Association web site from mid January. ... B-12 is covered in the BRT handbook, which kind of proves my point. I don't know the book inside out, I just refer to the relevant section when needed. Most of the second half of the book (the maths bit) was rendered redundant by Templot anyway, but still gives a good grounding. It is certainly highly unusual, but could be useful on occasions. I have now updated the single-sided tandem turnouts for 218c. But once you get started in Templot you will find that the SMP templates don't match prototype practice, and most users prefer to build their pointwork on templates printed from Templot. For a long read (150 pages) about a layout using SMP Scaleway, Templot and trackbuilding (and the option of using the 4-SF/00-SF standards for 00) see this topic from Gordon S ...
