Hi Simon, Regarding your second point about platforms, what I do is to get a plain curving track and overlay it, as closely as possible, along the turnout road, then put in the platform, and then remove all the rails and markers, including the track centre line, of the plain curved track, so only the platform is left showing. There will be no trace, other then in the storage box of the overlaid plain track. See image below.
