... topic: 2620 LNWR track drawings. posted: 31 Jan 2015 13:46 from: Trevor Walling Hello, I was doing a tidy up on one of my pc's and I came across this. I had forgotten all about it and I don't know where I got it. It was probably somewhere online quite a while ago. 2110_310840_390000000.jpg Attachment: attach_2054_2620_LNWR_track_drawin gs.jpeg 571 posted: 1 Feb 2015 00:34 from: Brian Nicholls Hi Trevor, I am sorry to point out, that those drawings are the copyright of the L&NWR Society. Two track books have been published which contain the drawings, which also includes the one you have posted. The books are one for the 1909 PW standards, and the other is for the 1916 PW standards. All the best, Brian posted: 1 Feb 2015 18:15 from: Nigel Brown Hi Brian If these are the original LNWR PW drawings from 1009 and 1916, surely the copyright would have elapsed by now? ... : Martin Wynne Hi Peter, There is always a set or a joggle because without one it is impossible to set the track gauge correctly through the switch. The blade tips would have to be so thin and fragile that they wouldn't last 5 minutes in service. You never say never, but if LNWR switches didn't have a set I will eat a track template. An LNWR track drawing was posted recently on Templot Club, see: message 18021 Here is the full-size original uploaded: gallery/2110/original/2110_310840_390000000.jpg From which I have extracted this clip. I have drawn on the rail edges in yellow and blue, and you can see clearly that there is a set angle between them at the blade tip. 2_120837_340000000.png regards, Martin. ... 2110_191505_350000000.png I think the timbers of sufficient length would be available as such examples can be seen in old images quite frequently. There are circumstances where short timbers could be used interlaced but examples vary according to the company and time period. They tend to be pre-grouping companies where methods where less standardized and more varied. Regards. Trevor. But how do I know what goes where? Hi Keith, Generally timbering practice varies across railway companies and periods, the type of traffic flows on each road, local ground conditions, and the mood of the relaying inspector. The only way to be sure you have it right is to model an actual location from photographs. But there are some ...
