... holding the stock rails, to ease them out a tad. There's lots been written about this and I'm pretty certain it's inclination of the rail in the chairs that's being held upright by the roller gauges, whilst the glue sets, that is causing it. Hi Andrew, If you are using inclined rails, it is important that the gauge slots are deep enough only to engage the rail head. Because of the corner radius on the head, the rail can then easily rotate to 1:20 inclination in the slot: 2_291255_350000000.png If the slots are too deep, the easiest solution is to wind some fuse wire into them until they are not. A tiny smear of paint will seal the loose end of the wire. The gauge of the track should have no effect on the positioning of check rails. If you are using multi-slot gauges having more than 2 slots, please don't. Please? This is how the gauging of check rails should work: 2_102021_190000000.png More information about gauging is here, just add 2mm to everything there for EM ...

Hi Rob, This is how the gauges are intended to be used with inclined rails, engaging only the rail head: 2_291255_350000000.png The top corner radius on the rail head allows the rail to incline while still remaining accurately gauged. If the gauge slots are too deep, try winding some soft copper wire into them to reduce the depth. Note that check rails should always be vertical, not inclined. cheers, Martin. posted: 20 May 2018 01:22 from: Rob Manchester Martin Wynne wrote: Rob Manchester wrote: It is an odd situation with track building in that most track gauges try to hold the rail upright assuming the rail is ...

I have a contact who is willing to turn me a set and I am looking for any advice that is available Hi John, The deeper slot face on the inside in your sketch serves no purpose. The head of bullhead rail is radiused on the corners and will easily turn through the small angle of 3 degrees within a standard roller gauge slot: 2_291255_350000000.png It is only necessary not to make the slot so deep that it engages the rail foot. A slot depth of 1.0mm is about right* for 4mm scale. The chairs hold the rail upright (at 3 degrees, 1:20), so when using functional chairs there is no need for the gauge tool to hold the rail, it is used solely for gauging. *for gauging between the chairs, not above them. regards, Martin.
