... extended the turnout check rail but then thought better of it. As you see below I have lengthend the turnout checkrail and I think I might make it a bit like a switch blade to lie close behind the switch rail of the turnout or does it not matter too much that there is a gap? Also at the switch end would the check rail extend to overlap the switch blade as I assume there would be room for it there. I'm using FB rail so maybe that's not such a good idea. Hi Fraser, In NSWGR practice with flat bottom rail is that the side of the foot closest to the running rail is usually machined off to get the rails close enough in regards to check and wing rails as part of leads (turnouts). The whole thing relies on the specially shaped chocks between the rails through which the bolts pass to bind the two rails together.
