An Australian report on a goods train derailment makes for interesting reading. The report discusses the effect of curves leading into turnouts. Turnout 'standards'. Causes of derailments due to train - and wheel - dynamics and 'operations'. All relevant to anyone building track and operating model trains. The report features some excellent photos, diagrams and drawings. See: http://www.atsb.gov.au/publications/investigation_reports/2004/RAIR/pdf/rair2004008_001.pdf Roger Henry, Brisbane |
